FRIDAY. The morning consisted of Oral exercises, in the afternoon a match spelling. Before the Captains had taken their places, Miss H. A. McCauley arrived with quite a number of her scholars, giving us an interesting additional programme of a repetition of their exercises commemorating Washington’s birth-day each scholar performing his part in a manner, which bespoke a perfect drilling. Miss Bessie Manly, Carrie Smith and others, with music, added to the enjoyment of the occasion. After which the spelling match, began to grow a little tedious, Misses Lillie Grant, Dollie Miller, Lizzie Grant, William Otley, Norvil Jorden, Harry Terrel, held the fort for a while, but Lizzie Grant was left standing alone “like the last rose of Summer.” Over sixty visitors were present.
