Will of Ann ALEXANDER (1869), Cecil County, MD Contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Doug Arbuckle http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************************** Cecil County Will File, 5-Apr-1869, Ann Alexander In the name of God Amen I, Ann Alexander in the county of Cecil, in the State of Maryland being sick and weak in body, but of sound mind - Considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to Call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament, in the manner and form following, that is to say First and principally, I Commit my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor herein after named, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid - I devise and bequeath as follows: Item first. I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Harrigan three hundred dollars. Item second I give and bequeath to Rosa Sinix one hundred dollars. Item third – I give and bequeath to Silena Borland two hundred dollars. Item fourth. I give and bequeath to Mary Ellen Borland two hundred dollars. Item Fifth. I give and bequeath to Delaplane M Borland two hundred dollars. Item Sixth. I give and bequeath to John Alexander Borland two hundred dollars. Item Seventh. I give and bequeath to Maggie D Borland two hundred dollars. Item Eighth. I give and bequeath to Henry M Borland two hundred dollars. Item Ninths. I give and bequeath to Washington T Borland the sum of two hundred dollars. Item Tenths. I give and bequeath to Amanda E Moore the sum of twenty five dollars. Item Eleventh. I give and bequeath to Amanda A Borland all the rest and residue of my Estate, including household goods, etc. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint Mathew Borland Executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Fifteenth day of September in the year of Our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and sixty eight Ann Alexander Signed, sealed and proclaimed by Ann Alexander the above testator, and for her last Will and testament in the presence of us who at her request and in her presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto I Alfred Mackie Matthew Borland Cecil County SS April 5th 1869 Then came Mathew Borland Executor named in the foregoing instrument of writing and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the same is the true and whole last will and testament of Ann Alexander deceased that hath come to his knowledge and possession that due publication of the contents thereof hath been made that he knows of none other or any reason why the probate thereof should not be taken. R D Jamar, Register Cecil County SS April 5th 1869 Then came J Alfred Mackie & Mathew Borland the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing instrument of writing and severally made Oath upon the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that they did see Ann Alexander the testatrix therein named sign and seal the same, that they heard her publish pronounce and declare the same to her last will and testament and at the time of her so doing she was to the best of their apprehension and belief of a sound and disposing mind memory and understanding that they severally subscribed their names as witnesses thereto in the presence at the request of said testatrix and in the presence of each other. Matthew Borlands on note dated the twenty fifth day of March Eighteen hundred & sixty four with intrest(sic) from date $1439.40 W&W Armstrong on Note dated the twentieth day of Feb 1868 Payable at twelve months intrest(sic) From 20 Feb 1868 $ 325.00 C C Brokaw on due Bill dated Jany 6, 1869 $ 72.94 Matthew Borland on open acct $ 40.00 Washington Alexander due on the first of May 1868 her yearly income of one hundred pr year and from the first day of May 1868 to the Eighteenth day of Septemb(sic) of said year in proportion $ 138.33 John A D Arthur A Mackie to Rent due her for five Months and Eighteen days later at a yearly Rent of Sixty two Dollars per year $ 28.53 ---------- $2044.61 Cecil County, Sct Oct 20, 1869 Then came Mathew Borland Executor of Ann Alexander late of Cecil county, deceased, and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the aforegoing and annexed is a true and perfect list of Debts, desparate and sperate(sic), due to the said deceased, which had come to his sight or knowledge at the time of the making thereof.
