All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Kent Kirkham kkirkham2021@insightbb.com May 8, 2005, 11:17 pm Source: Cecil County, Maryland, Wills Written: September 12, 1820 Recorded: October 10, 1820 In the name of God Almighty Amen, I, Nathaniel Lightner of the County of Cecil and the State of Maryland being sick and weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and wishing to leave all my worldly matters in a situation to give as small a share of trouble to those interested as I possibly can do therefore make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. 1st I commit my Soul into the hands of Almighty God from whence it came and my Body to the Earth to be decently buried and after my just debts and funeral charges are paid I give devise and bequeath as follows._ 2d I give and bequeath unto my Wife Elizabeth Five Hundred dollars current money and an equal share of the rest of my Real and personal property as is here in after specified in lieu of her thirds or Dower. 3d I give and bequeath unto my Son John Lightner Five Hundred dollars in consideration of Services rendered me since he came to the age of Twenty one years. 4th I give and bequeath unto my Son George Wike Lightner One Silver Dollar and no more. 5th I devise and bequeath all the rest and residue of my estate both real and personal to be equally divided among my Wife Elizabeth and Sons John, Levi, Luther and Joel Wike Lightner and Daughters Catherine Dorsey, Julia Ann Barbara Brisben, Amanda Matilda, and Eliza Cook Lightner, in equal portion share and share alike. It is my will that all my real and personal Estate shall be sold within Two years from the first day of April next ensuing at the discretion of my Executors. My Will also is that my Wife Elizabeth and Son John Lightner shall hold all my real and personal property for the use of my present family until it is sold by my Executors. And lastly I do hereby appoint and constitute my Son John Lightner and my Brother John Lightner to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twelfth day of September in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hunderd and Twenty.
