I give and bequeath to my wife Martha R Ricards all my estate of whatsoever Kind and nature, including cash in Bank, household furniture and effects, and all my interest in horses, cattle and farming implements on the property now occupied by me. I nominate, constitute and appoint my wife Martha R Ricards to be the Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this first day of August AD One thousand nine hundred and fourteen. Request for Letter Testamentary In the Matter of the Last Will and Testament of Philip A Ricards [missing text near top of page] …that Martha R Ricards the Executrix named in the Last Will and Testament of Philip A Ricards dated the 1st day of August, AD, 1914 has renounced her right to letters Testamentary for the estate of said deceased. That said Philip A Ricards was a resident of Cecil County, State of Maryland, and departed this life at his home near North East in said County, on Sunday the 27th day of January, AD, 1918 at 2:45 o’clock pm. That said decedent left surviving him the following heirs, viz: His widow Martha R Ricards, Philip R Ricards, a son, Cecil Co MD – Elizabeth Wylie, Cecil Co a daughter, a daughter, Jennett R Cramer, a daughter, Drumore, PA. Therefore the said Jennett R Cramer respectfully applies for probate of said Last Will and Testament and for Letters Testamentary theron. Jeanette R Ricards Cecil County ss: Personally appeared Jennett R Cramer petitioner named in the above application, and being duly sworn according to law, did depose and say that the matters and things set forth in the foregoing petition are true to the best of her knowledge, information and belief. Rufus D Bowland, Register Obituary from unknown newspaper, included in will file: PHILIP A RICARDS Philip A Ricards, a well known farmer and prominent citizen of Elk Neck, died last Sunday afternoon. The illness that resulted in his death was brief, though he had been in failing health for some time. Mr Ricards was seventy-four years of age. He served in the US Navy during the Civil war, and at one time was in the livery business in North East. For more than thirty years he had farmed the finely located Ricards place on Elk River. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Martha Thomas, daughter of the late Judge R L Thomas, of North East. One son, Richard, and two daughters, Mrs Bessie Wiley, at home, and Mrs Albert Cramer, of Drumore, PA, also survive him. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with interment at the Methodist Cemetary, North East.
