Maryland Archives, microfilm WK 981-982-3) No. 73 In the Name of God Amen. This fifth day of May one thousand Seven hundred & Ninety Six. I Elizabeth Tanner of East Nottingham Hundred Cecil County & State of Maryland being weak and frail in Body but of Perfect and Sound Mind and Memory Blessed be God for his Mercies Calling to mind the mortality of my Body & that it is apointed for all Men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament. First and Principally I recommend my Soul to God who gave it & my Body to the Dust to be Buryed in a Christian ? Like manner at the Discretion of my Executors, my Will is that my Funeral Expenses and all my Just and lawfull Debts be paid and that a Headstone & foot Stone such as is over my Husband Philip Tanner's Grave be set over my Grave and that the Remainder of my Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I Dispose of in the following manner & first I give and bequeath unto my Son Hugh one hundred Pounds. And the Remainder of my Estate to be Devided Equally among Six of my Grand Children Namely Philip Tanner & Frances Tanner and Elizabeth Moore & Rebeccah Tanner Betsey Tanner & Mary Tanner. And Lastly I do hereby apoint Nominate & ordain my Son Hugh Tanner and my Grandson Philip Tanner Executors of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made Rating and Confirming this in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Day and Year above written. Elizabeth (her x mark) Tanner (Seal) Signed Sealed and Published pronounced and Declared & Declared by the above named Elizabeth Tanner to be her last Will & Testament in the Presence of us who have hereunto Subscribed our Names as witness in the Presence of the Testator. John Dickey David Dickey Cecil County Nov. 25th 1797 then came Hugh Tanner and Philip Tanner and made Oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God, that the foregoing is the true and whole last will and Testament of Elizabeth Tanner Late of said County deceased that hath come to their hand and Possession, and that they know not of any other. Sworn before David Smith Regr Cecil County Nov. 25th 179 7 then came David Dickey one of the Subscribing Witnesses to the within last Will and Testament of Elizabeth Tanner late of said County Deceased and made Oath on the holy Evangels of Almighty God that he did see the said Testatrix sign & Seal this Will, that he heard her pronounce publish and declare the same to be her last Will and Testament and that at the time of her so doing she was to the best of his apprehension of a Sound and diposing mind and memory, and that he and John Dickey Severally Subscribed the same as witness in the presence and at the Request of the Testatrix and in the Presence of each other.
