Latimer and Susanna E. his wife and others filed 2 Oct. 1843 The separate answer of John M. Latimer and Susanna E. Latimer his wife to the bill of complaint filed against them and others in you Honora be Count, respectfully shown- That saving and preserving to themselves, all and -- exception the manifold errors imperfections and defects of the said Bill these respondents for answer thereto or to so much thereof as they are advised it is material for them to answer unto, answer and say---That they admit the death of Thomas Turner at the periods stated in said bill--They also admit that the deed of conveyance from Benedick Edelen for the lot or tract of land called St. Thomas in and adjoin the village of Newport, only gives a life interest to Thomas Turner, with remaining in full to Susanna E. Turner now Susanna E. Latimer your respondent (which deed of conveyance is Herin with filed and prayed to be taken as a part of this answer marked exhibit one) but these respondents do expressly deny the aligation in said bill of complain that the entire purchase money of the said lot was paid by the said Thomas Turner and these respondents relying upon the titles and estates conveyed in said deed of conveyance do also deny that the said Martha Turner the complainant has any right of dower in said land or lot or any right or claim to any share of the rents and profits of the same _____therefrom since the death of the said Thomas Turner. These respondents deny that any demand of rent or dower has been made of them by the said complaint prior to filing her bill of complaint. They also most expressly deny that so far as these respondents have any knowledge thereof that the said Thomas Turner procurred the conveyance from Benidick Edelen to be drawn as it was executed with a view of depriving the said complainant of her dower therin. And these respondents having answered all the alligations of said bill which they are advised it is material for them to answer ---- to be dimissed with the reasonable cost in their behalf most wonderfully sustained. this was done on August 26th 1843.
