All Rights Reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ******************************************************************************** FEBRUARY TERM 1833 CHARLES TURNER'S WILL In the name of God, Amen, I CHARLES TURNER of Charles County and State of Maryland, being sick and weak in body, but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world while it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say.----- First and principally, I commit my soul to the almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor, herein after named, and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequeath as follows. I give and devise unto my oldest son FREDERICK all of that part of my plantation whereon he now dwells being part of a tract of land known by the name of WATSON'S CHOICE, beginning at the third boundary of said tract and running west eighty perches, then south one hundred and twenty perches, then east eighty perches, then east ten degrees south until it intersects a ditch, east side of a swamp, then northwardly with said ditch about forty perches to a bridge then west to a ditch on the east side of said swamp, then down and with said ditch to a small branch, or---- and ---- with the hill and main swamp to the beginning containing 8 acres more or less to him the said FREDERICK and his heirs in ??? Item: I give and bequeath unto my wife MARY TURNER for and during her single life the residue of the tract of land called WATSONS CHOICE. whereon I now dwell, conveying to my two daughters SOPHIA and LYDIA, and likewise my two youngest sons WILSON and CHARLES ALEXANDER a single life in the same jointly with their mother and upon the death or marriage of my aforesaid wife MARY and daughters SOPHIA and LYDIA, it is my will and I hereby devise the aforesaid plantation to my two sons WILSON and CHARLES ALEXANDER to them and their heirs forever, to be equally divided between them as soon as my youngest son CHARLES ALEXANDER shall arrive at the age of twenty one years or as soon thereafter as the said land may be released from the encumbrances mentioned in this devise. Item: All the rest and residue of my estate consisting of personal property I leave to be divided into three equal parts, one third part whereof I give and bequeath to my wife MARY , and the remaining two thirds to be equally divided amongst all my children, share and share alike, my son FREDERICK'S share to be paid over to him immediately after my decease and the shares of the rest to be kept together for the use of the share, subject to the control of my wife MARY so long as they all shall live single, but in the event of either one marrying the one so marrying shall forthwith receive their respective share. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son, FREDERICK TURNER to be sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this twelfth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and thirty.
