[This could not be the same Annecletus Dyer that was four years old in 1755 and was the son of William Jr and Mary Dyer.] I thought that this William Dyer Jr. who d. in 1753 would be the son of the William Dyer who d. in 1754. But since William Dyer was paid in the Admin Acct of William Dyer Sr. in 1757, I guess that he was still living in 1757 and cannot be this William Dyer. Who is this William Dyer? I will look forward to that Estate admin. in Charles County. This has been our problem with Joseph Crown. The 1776 census of Maryland is the only record we have of Joseph and Elizabeth Crown, besides the church records in Montgomery County from the Rock Creek Parish Church. Then in 1777 there is an estate settlement for a Joseph Crown with wife Sarah and sons Samuel and Joseph Wheeler Crown in Charles County. I do not see how his wife could have changed names in one year, unless her name was Sarah Elizabeth Dyer Crown. We are looking forward to doing an in depth study of Charles County records. William Dyar Annactitus Dyar I just reread what Newman had to say about Penelope Dyar Howard. I will include it here, but I may have to think about this for awhile before I can figure it out. Please let me know what you think. This copy is so poor that I will retype the whole thing. Penelope (Dyar) Howard2 17-- 1763 Penelope Dyar, one of the older daughters of Patrick and Comfort (Barnes) Dyar, was born in Piscataway Hundred, Prince George's County. It has not been possible to prove the Christian name of her husband who predeceased her and no will or administration of his estate has been found in either Prince George's County or Charles County. He was probably the Ignatius Howard who in 1733 was the only Howard who was a taxpayer in Piscataway Hundred other than Edmund Howard who can be identified. And she was in all probability a second wife. Children of [Ignatius] and Penelope (Dyar) Howard 1. Susanna Howard married Alexander Fraser. Patrick Dyar Fraser, their son, was baptized 15 Aug 1773 at St. John's Parish. 2. Mary Howard married Philip Edelen, son of Thomas and Mary (Blandford) Edelen. Her last will and testament was dated January 15, 1763, and probated in Prince George's County on October 17, following, by Thomas Nally and James Campbell. To her daughter, Susanna Fraser, she bequeathed bed and furniture and her wearing apparel. To her "daughter-in-law" Mary Dyar she willed personalty as well as her daughter, Mary Edelen. To her grandson, Annacletius Dyar, she bequeathed five shillings and appointed her son-in-law, Philip Edelen, the executor. The administration bond of Philip Edelen, the executor, was dated October 17, 1763, with Thomas Nally and Christopher Edelen as the sureties. Her personal estate was appraised at £21/10/9 on October 21, 1763, and approved by Susanna Fraser and Elizabeth Green, the latter being identified as her sister. James Leiper and Edward Dyar approved as the greatest creditors. There are good reasons to assume that Penelope (Dyar) Howard was a second wife and that her husband had a daughter by a previous marriage named Mary or Mary Ann Howard. The widow Howard named a daughter, Mary Edelen, and also Mary Dyar, a daughter-in-law. The latter was apparently the relationship of a step-daughter and not of the modern meaning today, as being the wife of a Howard she could not be the mother of a Dyar, who had married a Mary -----. Some affection evidently existed between her and her alleged step-daughter, because Madam Howard bequeathed a legacy to her "grandson" Annclycletius Dyar, who was more likely a step-grandson whose father was her nephew.
