The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** John Bowye Will In the name of God Amen I John Bowye of Charles County in the State of Maryland being sick and weak but of sound mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for the same knowing the uncertainty of mans life and that it is appointed all men once to die do make my last will and testament in manner following making null and void all other wills by me heretofore made First and principally I commend my soul to the hands of Almighty God that gave it to me and my body to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named and as to which worldly estate it hath pleased God to bless me with I dispose of in the following manner. (word unreadable) I will (word unreadable) all my (word unreadable) debts to be first paid Item I give to my Daughter Mary Persons? one shilling sterling and no more Item I give to the heir of my Daughter Elinor Posey one shilling sterling and no more Item I give to the heir of my Daughter Jain Groves one shilling sterling and no more Item I give to the heir of my Daughter Anne Picken? One shilling sterling and no more Item I give to my beloved wife Isabel Bowie for and during her natural life the use of the whole and every part of my Estate whatsoever of all kinds and my will is that after the death of my wife aforesaid that my moveable estate may be equally divided between my children after named James Peal Bowie, William Bowie, John Bowie, Benjamin Bowie, also my daughters Elizabeth Bowie and Susannah Bowie to have equal parts. And lastly I constitute my wife Isabel Bowie to be the whole and sole Executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affect my seal this 3rd day of April 1780- Signed John (his mark) Bowie Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of John Smith, Rhody Adams, Jos Adams JUNE COURT 1781 On the back of the foregoing will it is written ~Charles County 27th July 1781 then come Isabelle Bowie Executor of the last will and testament of John Bowie late of said county deceased and made oath on the Holy Evangel that the within (Next two words not readable) the whole last will and testament of John Bowie late of said county deceased and that she knows of know other Signed Dan JeniferCharles County 27th July 1781 Then came John Smith and Rhody Posey two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing last will and testament of John Bowie late of said county did and made an oath on the Holy Evangel of Almighty God that they did see the testator therein named sign and seal this will and that they heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament and that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding and that they respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this will in the presence of the testator at his request and in the presence of each other.
