The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Will of Leonard Lyon Written January 7th 1803 in Charles County, Maryland State of Maryland to wit, In the name of God Amen I Leonard Lyon of Charles County being of perfect mind and memory, but weak in body and mindful of death, did make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in the manner and form following. In the first place I direct my Executors to be named hereafter to bury my body in a plain and decent manner in the blessed hope of a happy resurrection at the great day through the merits of Jesus Christ. Item; I direct my Executor to sell on such terms as they may think best all my lands lying in Charles and St. Mary's Counties and known by the names of St Margaret's and Pettit's Addition and the monies arising from the sale thereof to be applied to the education of my two grand children William Lyon and Catherine Lyon; the former of whom I wish to be continued at a grammar school until he receive a good education sufficient to qualify him for professional business and the latter to be sent to school and properly instructed in reading writing and arithmetic. Item; I give and bequeath all my personal property of every kind to my dear grand children William and Catherine aforesaid and my dear daughter-in-law Mary Lyon to be equally divided among them after all my just debts are discharged which I recommend to be done as soon as conveniently may be. Lastly, I do hereby appoint my brother Walter Lyon and my daughter-in-laws brother John Estep jointly and severally guardians of my said grand children and Executors of this my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking and annulling all others and requiring due faith and credit to be given to this given under my hand and seal this seventh day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and three - Signed and sealed by the Testator and declared to be his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us - Henry Lyon Davis - Hughet Johnson - Leonard Lyon {seal} George Davis - At the foot of the afore going Will it is this written - Charles County Sct. August 14th 1810 Then came Walter Lyon one of the appointed Executors of the Last Will and Testament of Leonard Lyon late of Charles County deceased and made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that the above instrument of writing is the true and whole Last Will and Testament of said deceased that came to his hands or possession and that he doth not know of any other -- Test: Humphrey Barnes Reg. Of Wills Charles County Sct. August 14th 1810 then came Hughet Johnson and George Davis two of the subscribing witnesses to the within Last Will and Testament of Leonard Lyon late of Charles County deceased and severally made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that they did see the Testator therein named sign and seal this Will and that they heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding and that they together with Henry Lyon Davis the other subscribing witness respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this Will in the presence and at the request of the Testator and in the presence of each other - Test: Humphrey Barnes Reg.
