The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Will of Michael Lyon Written December 22nd, 1782 in Charles County, Maryland In the name of God Amen, I Michael Lyon Sen. of Charles County and State of Maryland being weak in body but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind his friendly of human a nature me well so knowing that it is so desired that all men once should die do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following; revoking and annulling all former Wills, inheritances Imprimis (?), I so command my soul to his hands of Almighty God who gave sins hoping that the man to and mediation of my beloved Savior Jesus Christ to obtain the form again at the general resurrection and my body to the earth from whence it came to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my beloved son Walter Lyon- Item; I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Leonard Lyon the Plantation whereas I now live known by the name "St. Margaret's" containing seventy acres to it more or less also another ad joint tract called "Petites Addition" containing thirty acres be the same more or less all which lands I give unto him his heirs forever my son Walter possessing the same one year after my death. Item; I give and bequeath unto my son Walter Lyon my now xxxxx (?) plantation being west of a tract of land known by the name of Rochester containing one hundred acres be it more or less all which I give to him and his heirs forever. Also, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Walter Lyon all the tobacco which I do possessed with the same I give unto him and his heirs forever. Item; I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Michael Lyon one Negro boy named Alexander the same I give unto him and his heirs forever, also my feather bed and furniture which I now lie upon which bed I give to him and his heirs forever. Item; I give and bequeath unto me beloved grandson Walter Lyon Jun. Of my son Walter Lyon one Negro boy named William which Negro I give unto him and his heirs forever. Lastly, my will is that my two sons Leonard and Walter Lyon be my Executors and I do hereby acknowledge this and only this to be my Last Will and Testament In Witness where of I have subscribed for my hand and affixed my seal this twenty second day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty-two. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of - Elias Poston, William Poston and William Good -- Michael Lyon {seal} At the foot and on the back of which Will is this written - Charles County Sct. 19th November 1787 Then came Leonard Lyon and Walter Lyon Executors of Michael Lyon late of Charles County deceased and swore both in the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that the above instrument of writing is the true and whole Last Will and Testament of the said deceased that hath come to their hands or possession and that they do not know of any other. Certified by John Muschett Reg. Of Wills Charles County Sct. 19th November 1787 Then came William Poston one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Last Will and Testament of Michael Lyon late of Charles County deceased and made oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that he did see the Testator therein named sign and seal this Will that he heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his Last Will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of his apprehensions of sound and disposing mind memory and is understanding that he together with Elias Poston and William Good the other two subscribing witnesses respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to the Will in the presence and at the request of the Testator and in the presence of each other - Certified by John Muschett Reg. Of Wills I do certify that Elias Poston one of the witnesses to the foregoing Will is a resident of the State of Virginia and that William Good another witness is deceased - John Muschett Reg. Of Wills On the 19th November 1787 letter Testimony in the Estate of Michael Lyon was passed to Leonard Lyon and Walter Lyon and their bond with Alexander McPherson and William Poston their securities was taken in the form of fifteen hundred pounds current money for and in consideration - Recorded 7th April 1788 the inventory -- Bennett Dyson - Robert Gill - Appraisers
