Will Book 1, p.359 Written: March 31, 1817 Recorded: May 1817 In the name of God Amen, I Allen Martin of Monongalia County in the State of Virginia being sick and weak but strong in mind and of good memory thanks be to God for the same. Calling to mind the Mortality of my body and that it is appointed unto all men once to die and as to the things of worldly property that God has pleased to bless me with I give and dispose of the same in the following manner, Imprimis, my will and desire is that my debts should be first paid. I give to my beloved wife Athelia three slaves Isaac, Lucy and Mary during her natural life afterwards my sons Horatio, Aquilla and Samuel is to have them and their increase if any. I give unto my son Turner one negro girl named Verlinder as his full portion of my estate. I give unto my daughter Athelia Sarah one negro girl named Maria. My will and desire is that my five sons Horatio, John Albert, Turner, Aquilla, and Samuel shall pay unto Alexander Boggs twenty dollars each, twelve months after my decease as his full part of the estate. I publish this and pronounce it to be my last will and Testimony this thirty first day of March, 1817. Allen Martin (Seal) Teste: Alexander Summers Jonathan Summers At a court held for Monongalia County May term 1817, this within last will and Testament of Allen Martin deceased was produced in Court proven by the oaths of Alexander Summers and Jonathan Summers witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. Teste: N. Evans C.M.C. Additional Comments: Allen Martin was born in Charles Co. Md. about 1767 and was the son of John Martin (b. 1716 Charles Co. Md.-d. Charles Co. Md. July 4, 1776) and Elizabeth ? b. 1720 Cornwall England. Between 1800 and 1805 the Martin family migrated West into what is now Preston Co.
