Maryland State Archives, Annapolis, Maryland William Morland's Will July the 26th [1]777 In the name of God Amen I WILLIAM MORLAND of Charles County in the Province of Maryland (Planter) being in Comfort Many Thanks Go to the Almighty God for the Same do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in Manner and form as _____ First, I give my soul into the hands of the Almighty God that gave it to me Hoping to provide Eternal Happiness through _____ Blessed Savior Jesus Christ, my Body I commit to the Earth to be buried in a Decent Manner at the Discretion of my Executor hereafter named and touching such worldly goods as has pleased His Almighty God to bless me with in this life my will and desire is that funeral charges and Just debts be first paid by my Executor hereafter named I give and dispose of my Estate as follows ---- Item - I give and Bequeath to my Nephew WALTER MORLAND Son of JACOB MORLAND one Negroe man named Charles one Ditto named Peter one Mullatto man named Wat one Negroe man named David one Negroe Boy named Rhota one Ditto named Ignatius one Ditto named David one Ditto named Shadrick one Ditto named Cornelius one Ditto named Benjamin to him and his Heirs forever --- Item -- I give and Bequeath to my Nephew WALTER MORLAND Son of JACOB MORLAND one Negroe woman named Sarah and her Increase one Negroe woman named Judah and her Increase one Ditto named Linda and her Increase one Ditto named Elizabeth and her Increase one Ditto named Lucy and her Increase one Negroe girl named Amelia and her Increase one Ditto named Monica and her Increase and Ditto named I__y and her Increase one Ditto named Eve and her Increase to him and his Heirs forever --- Item -- I give and Bequeath to my Nephew WALTER MORLAND Son of JACOB MORLAND all the Land that I am in possession of with the goods and chattels to his and His Heirs forever --- (p.36) And Lastly I do ordain Constitute and appoint my Nephew WALTER MORLAND Son of JACOB MORLAND my whole sole Executor of this my Last will and testament revoking all former wills made by me heretofore _____ I have ____ my hand and Seal this Sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Two - Signed Sealed and delivered WILLIAM MORLAND [SEAL] In the presence of us Paul Howell Jonathan McDaniel Thomas Jones On the back of which Will __ as thus Endorsed Charles County --- On the 26th day of July 777 came Paul Howell one of the subscribing witnesses to the forgoing will of WILLIAM MORLAND late of Charles County deceased and made oath on the Holy Evangels that he saw the said __ testator Sign and Seal the same with and ___ to the best of his remembrance he heard him Publish and declare it to be his Last will and Testament but of this he is not quite certain. At this same time came Jonathan McDaniel and Thomas Jones the other witnesses and made oath that they saw the testator Sign and Seal the said will and heard him Publish Pronounce and declare it to be his Last will and Testament that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprenhensions of Sound and disposing Mind and Memory and that they together with Paul Howell respectively subscribed their names as witnesses to this will and at the Request of the Testator and in the presence of each other. Paul Howell further declared that when the Testator Signed and Sealed the foregoing __ was to the best of his judgement of Sound Memory and Understanding and that he together with Jonathan McDaniel and Thomas Jones Subscribed their names ___ to the said will in the presence of the Testator at his request.
