Tyler, Hoopers Island” Pasted on that page are two poems in memoriam to Matthew T. Tyler from his children on the one-year anniversary of his death on March 28, 1926. In the middle of the Bible, a section entitled FAMILY RECORD contains the following: Marriages (purple ink) “Saml G. Meekins & Caroline R. Tyler was maried Jenvry, the 23..1871” (in pencil) “Allie W Tolley and B Agnes North Were married July 16th 1916” Births (written in purple ink, apparently by Caroline R. Meekins) “George. Tyler was born May the 5. 1812 Caroline E. Tyler was born October the 5. 1818 Caroline R. Tyler was born August the 31. 1854 Edith Oleny Meekins was born December the 22 1872 Rody. M. Meekins was born November the 22. 1875” (written in black ink by Tillie Tyler Dunnock Simmons) Tillie Dunnock borned Feb 27th 1879 A. Mildred Dunnock borned May 21st 1900 Roland M. Dunnock was borned Sept. 12th 1903 Raymond Simmons borned Sept 24th 1911 James M. Simmons borned May 10th 1913 (in pencil) Allie W Tolley was July 13 – 1892 B Agnes North Was Born July 6 – 1900 Jermeiah Wendell Tolley was Born May 30 – 1917 Deaths (written in purple ink apparently by Caroline R. Meekins) “Mary E. Tyler Departed this Life August the 8 18 dear sister whe mist those pressious Smils those Childish walkes and ways But trust in the Lord whe all shall meet Again Beyonnd the grave Caroline R. Meekins” (written in black ink by Tillie Tyler Dunnock Simmons) “Matthew T. Tyler died March 28th 1926 (87 years old)” This Bible apparently first belonged to George Tyler, but it was not inscribed until it became the property of his daughter Caroline R. Meekins. Then the bible was in the possession of her brother Solomon F. Tyler. Later it was owned by Solomon’s brother Matthew Tyler. Upon Matthew Tyler’s death, it became the property of Tillie Dunnock Simmons (Matthew’s daughter), and then it was owned by Raymond H. Simmons (Tillie’s son). The bible is now in the Parker-Simmons Homeplace, Hoopers Island, Maryland.
