A formatted version can be Viewed at http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/dorchester/wills/hayward-sh.pdf Sarah (Hooper) Hayward (d1776) Will Dorchester County MD Maryland Hall of Records 40:730 (Microfilm 4434-2) Written 9 March 1774 Proved 12 February 1776 In the name of God Amen I Sarah Hayward of Dorchester County being in perfect Health and of sound sence and memory blessed be God for the Same I do hereby make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following revoking and making Null and Voic all former or other Wills heretofore made Vizt Imprimis I give and bequeath my Soul to Almighty God who gave it me with a full Assurance of pardon and Remission of all my Sins through the Merits and Sufferings of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ, and my Body to the Earth to receive such decent and Christian Burial as my herein appointed Executor shall seem meet and as for such Worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me withal I give and Bequeath as followeth vizt Item I give and Bequeath unto my Son Francis Hayward one Negro man called old Cuff, one Negro Girl called Pleasant, one Negro Lad called Stephen, and one Negro Boy called Tom and also one Negro Boy called Dick to him my Said Son Francis Hayward his Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Sarah Giffen one Negro Girl call Ibb to her my said Grand Daughter Sarah Giffen her Heirs and Assigns forever Item I give and Bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Giffen my Negro Boy called Will (upon James Giffens paying my Daughter Sarah Brannak fifty Shillings Common money) to her my said Grand Daughter Elizabeth Giffens her Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Brannack four pounds Common Money as her full Share of my Estate, to her my said Daughter Sarah Brannack her Heirs and Assigns forever. Item I give and Bequeath unto my Son John Hayward one Cow one Ewe and Lamb & also five pounds Common Money as his full share of my Estate to him my said Son John Hayward his Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give and Bequeath unto my five Grand Children namely William Hayward, Joseph Hayward, Richard Hayward, Elizabeth Hayward (Children of my Son Thomas Hayward) Twenty pounds Common Money to be paid out of my Estate and to be Equally Divided between them my said Grand Children when they come of Age, to them and their Heirs forever. Item I give and Bequeath unto my Grand Daughter Hannah Hayward Child of my Son William Hayward two Shillings and Six pence Common Money as her full Share of my Estate, to her my said Grand Daughter her Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Traverse two Shillings and Six pence Common Money as her full Share of my Estate to her my said Daughter Mary Traverse her Heirs and Assigns forever. Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Manning two Shillings and Six pence as her full share of my Estate to her my said Daughter Elizabeth Manning her Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Rebecca Stewart two Shillings and Six pence as her full share of my Estate to her my said Daughter Rebecca Stewart her Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Priscilla Pitt two Shillings and Six pence as her full share of my Estate to her my said Daughter Priscilla Pitt her Heirs and Assigns forever Item I Give and Bequeath unto my Daughter Rosannah Giffen two Shillings and Six pence as her full share of my Estate to her my said Daughter Rosannah Giffen her Heirs and Assigns forever Lastly I do hereby Nominate and Appoint my Son Francis Hayward my whole and Sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I hath hereunto set my hand and fixed my Seal this Ninth day of Marcy 1774 Sarah (her mark) Hayward (Seale) Signed Sealed and published in presence of Jos: Ennalls Jun{r} Thomas Ennals, 3{rd} Daniel James Brooks On the back of the aforegoing Will was thus written vizt Dorchester County ? On the 12{th} day of February Anno Domini 1776 Francis Hayward the appointed Executor made Oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty God that the aforegoing Instrument of Writing is the true and whole Will and Testament of Saray Hayward late of Dorchester County deceased that hath come to his Hands or possession and that he does not know of any other Certified p Jn{o} Goldsborough Dorchester County ? On the 12th day of February 1776 Joseph Ennalls Jun{r} and Thomas Ennals the 3{d} two of the witnesses to the aforegoing Will made Oath on the Holy Evangels of Almighty that theysaw the Testatrix Sarah Hayward sign and Seal the aforegoing Will and heard her publish pronounce and declare the same to be her Last Will and Testament that at the time for her so doing she was to the best of their Apprehension of sound and disposing Mind Memory and Understanding, and that they together with Dan{l} James Brooks the other Subscribing witness respectively subscribed their names as Witnesses to the said Will in the presence and at the request of the testator and in the presence of each other.
