May 22, 1798 Wife of Benjamin Contributor Notes: The cemetery records of the Whitmore Family Of Frederick Co., MD as recorded in The National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Volume 52, 1964 and updated December 18, 2009 from other sources. Also known as the Dern Farm Cemetery, is in what was once Toms Creek Hundred, south of Toms Creek Cemetery (SE of Emmittsburg). Toms Creek Cemetery, consists of two cemeteries. These graves are the earliest in the locality. To get to the Dern farm, go south on the Sixes Road, from the Tom's Creek Church, turn right and follow a lane to the Dern residence. Follow the lane, cross a fence, and the stones are among clumps of trees and brush, surrounded by a woven wire fence. All the stones were carefully examined, and data copied on September 16, 1956. Although the remains of the cemetery are still located on the farm, the stones have been moved to the Mountain View Cemetery, Emmitsburg. As I understand, the reason for moving the gravestones was that Frederick County had plans to flood the area for a large reservoir but it was never constructed.
