I received a letter from Wm. stating that you had gone over to my house with your family which I was pleased to hear & feel fully satisfied that the change will be of infinite advantage to you all, as I have not known of an instance of ague & fever there since we owned the farm I wish very much that circumstances would admit of my being with you in order to make your situation more comfortable however you will be perfectly at home there & as I gave Wm. in my last letter instructions where to find my keys ( which by the by I forgot to tell you before I left home) have no doubt you can make out tolerably. The good whiskey I suppose you have found out by this time it is in the farthest cask with a cock in it the peach Brandy next to it & the Quarter cask of wine is not yet broached but by taking a large proof glass you will find with in the cellar or on the sideboard can soon fill a decanter by dipping it out of the bung hole, the common whiskey is in a small keg on top the pantry when that is out there is more in the room above the carriage house the key is perhaps in my desk part of the top is books -Edw. health has more very good but appears very restless here saying every day that he is sick of Balto & that we must make a move some where but declares he will not go any where East & appears to be a little doubtful of me he is afraid I will leave him some place at a distance from home. - At first he insisted upon it that the Dr. was the only Gent of the family & as for me I had no heart at all but I believe he has a little confidence in me now or at least he appears to be willing to go out to the hospital to show me all the crazy persons confined there& c-. Which shows that he has no idea of our putting him there again I have not heard from Father yet but expect a letter by tonight’s mail & hope most sincerely he may direct some other course than that of sending back to the hospital for I feel confident after having a more complete history of the Hor I could not carry him there I can go through anything that my conscience tells me is for the better but there is some doubt on this subject for his he viewsit this by the (viz.) persecution (Dr Alexander seems to think it a desperate case & says he must be sent from home for at least 4 years either to be pressed abroad a British Man of War with an understanding with the officer or sent to some school in the interior of Scotland-. Now the question is whether Fathers situation would justify a course of this kind if any thing should happen Edw. which would keep Fathers mind in such a state that he would be miserable I am afraid the danger would at all events be continually presenting it self before him- my candle is giving out adieuWith love to you all. I remain Dr Robt P.S. I congratulate Alex on the present from Matilda yrs appy Jn McPherson Jr. This file is located at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/md/baltimorecity/history/family/mcpherson.txt
