Mrs. Katheryne M. Birely

  Mrs. Katheryne M. Birely, widow of Elmer B. Birely, Woodsboro, died Tuesday 
night at 10 o’clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Schwarber, near 
Johnsville, where she had been removed about a week ago after suffering a 
cerebral hemorrhage.  She was aged 79 years, ten months and 17 days.  A member 
of the Woodsboro Lutheran church and a former member Mt. Zion Lutheran church 
at Haughs, where she served as organist for 35 years and also taught in the 
Sunday School.  Mrs. Birely was a daughter of the late William H. and Deborah 
Martz, of the Ladiesburg vicinity.  Surviving are two nephews:  Norman 
Phillips, Baltimore, and Edgar Phillips, Taneytown.
  The body is at the funeral home in Thurmont where it will remain until this 
morning at 10 o’clock when it will be removed to the Schwarber residence.  The 
funeral will take place on Friday morning with brief services at the Schwarber 
home at 10.30 o’clock, followed by services at the Woodsboro Lutheran church 
at 11 o’clock.  Rev. Herbert H. Schmidt, pastor of the deceased, will 
officiate.  Interment in Mt. Hope cemetery, Woodsboro.  M. L. Creager and Son, 
funeral directors.
