She was the wife of Henry Clay Watkins, who died in 1971. Born Sept. 11, 1909, in Rockville, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie Disney Lethbridge. Mrs. Watkins was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Spencerville Free Methodist Church in Burtonsville for 80 years. Her lifelong passion was the work of the Maryland Youth Temperance Council and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Surviving are two children, Darlene Crowder and husband Wayne of Libertytown and William Watkins and wife Rhonda of Silver Spring; 10 grandchildren, Christy Crowder Stein and husband Eric, Clinton Crowder and fiancée Emily Fisher, Charity Crowder and fiancée Jeffery Haines, Adam, Emily, Dan and Michael Watkins, and Charles, Chelsey and Colyn Crowder; one great-grandson, Andrew Stein; one sister, Marie Windsor; and three sisters-in-law, Louise and Hilda Lethbridge, and Audrey Hobbs. Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Richard, Louis and Harold Lethbridge; and two sisters, Nellie O'Neale and Violet Richardson. Services were held April 8 at Spencerville Free Methodist Church. Interment was in Union Cemetery, Burtonsville. Contributions may be made to Spencerville Free Methodist Church, 20243 Spencerville Road, Burtonsville, MD 20868; Woman's Christian Temperance Union or Frederick Church of the Nazarene, 7899 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Arrangements were handled by Stauffer Funeral Home, Mount Airy. *****Apr. 20, 2000***** Ivan Upton Lantz Mr. Ivan Upton Lantz, 70, of 7179 Browns Lane, Thurmont, died Sunday, April 16, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley Foland Lantz. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August 1999. Born June 19, 1929, in Boyds, he was a son of the late Leonard and Virgie Agnes Smith Lantz. Mr. Lantz was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Lantz was an animal lab technician and had worked for many years at Fort Detrick and Meloy Laboratory in Shady Grove. He was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church. He was an avid gardener and loved fishing and woodworking. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Ivan W. Lantz Sr. of Emmitsburg, James R. Lantz of Thurmont, and David A. Lantz Sr. of Sabillasville; three daughters, Robin L. Keeny of Thurmont, Patricia G. Clem of Middletown, and Teresa D. Blue of Williamsport; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Eston Lantz, one sister, Geraldine Foster, and several half brothers and sisters. The family received friends Wednesday, April 19, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home. The Rev. Susan Boehl, pastor of Lewistown United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
