She was the wife of Edward Leroy Meadows, who died Oct. 10, 1986. Born May 18, 1924 in Adamstown, she was the daughter of the late Morris Abraham Sr. and Maggie Estella Ebertt Zentz. She graduated from Emmitsburg High School in 1942. Mrs. Meadows and her husband had a dairy farm in the Emmitsburg area from 1943 until retiring in 1970. She was a member of Elias Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg. She held memberships in the Eastern Star, Frederick County Farm Bureau and Emmitsburg Grange. Mrs. Meadows was also employed by Frederick County Public Schools as a cafeteria worker. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family. Mrs. Meadows is survived by three daughters, Joyce Bruchey and husband George, Wanda Valentine and husband Dale, and Lois Trout and husband Dean, all of Keymar; one son, Edward Leroy Meadows Jr. and wife Theresa of Kernersville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Robin Sharitz, Jeff Bruchey, Kelly Rowe, Terri Beard, Tonya Bates, Rebecca Starkey and Jennifer Nelson; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Morris Zentz Jr. of Union Bridge. She will also be remembered by a good friend, Charles Irvin. Mrs. Meadows was preceded in death by one grandson, Murray Valentine; and two sisters, Virginia Delphey and Ruth Bowers. The family received friends on Tuesday, March 6, at Stauffer Funeral Home at 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. Funeral services were held March 7 at the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Robert E. Steinke, chaplain of Frederick Memorial Hospital, officiated. Interment was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. Dr. L. Robert Berberich Dr. L. Robert Berberich, of Bethesda and a prominent Maryland psychiatrist for 24 years, died Feb. 22, 2001, at Suburban Hospital following a stroke. A graduate of Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, he received his bachelor's from St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., graduating summa cum laude. His master's degree in philosophy was from Fordham University in New York and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He interned in internal medicine at the George Washington University Service of D.C. General Hospital and was a research biologist in the laboratory of molecular biology at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda where he taught a course titled "The Molecular Biology of the Gene." His psychiatric residency was at Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Towson. Since 1973, he has been a member of the medical staff at Suburban Hospital and served as chief of the Psychiatry Department in 1982 to 1983. He was a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Baltimore- Washington Institute for Psychoanalysis, and maintained an active practice in general psychiatry in Bethesda and Frederick. An enthusiast for art, travel and bird watching, he enjoyed additional homes in Chincoteague, Va., and Charleston, S.C. His marriage to Dr. Mary Ann Berberich ended in divorce. He is survived by his beloved companion, Carey Roberts; one daughter, Kathryn Marsh of Chevy Chase; one son, Dr. Matthew Berberich of Chevy Chase; one granddaughter, Megan Marsh, of Chevy Chase; and two brothers, William Berberich of Summit, N.J., and Bruce Berberich of Winchester, Va. The family suggests contributions be made in Dr. Berberich's memory to The National Audubon Society's Living Tribute Program. Funeral services will be private. *****Mar. 15, 2001***** Robert E. Windsor Robert E. "Bob" Windsor, 41, of Point of Rocks died March 10, 2001, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park. He worked for Safeway for 16 years, and attended Rockville High School and the Germantown Baptist Church. Born March 14, 1959, in Maryland, he was a son of Elva M. DuVall of Gaithersburg and the late Robert E. Windsor Sr. He was the husband of Kathleen A. Windsor. Besides his mother and wife, he is survived by daughters Angela Windsor and Shelby Windsor, both of Gaithersburg, and a sister, Wendy Windsor of Gaithersburg. Friends may visit 11 a.m. to noon today at the Germantown Baptist Church, 17640 Riffle Ford Road, Germantown. A service will be held at noon. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville. Hadley P. Tremaine Hadley P. Tremaine, 61, professor of English and chair of the department of English at Hood College, died of a heart attack March 11, 2001, at his home in Thurmont. Tremaine served on the Hood faculty since 1965 and chaired the English department since 1983. Students and colleagues will remember Tremaine as a professor with a wry sense of humor who brought to the teaching of literature an extraordinary breadth of knowledge from a number of disciplines, including anthropology, cultural theories and linguistics. Tremaine was the most senior member of Hood's faculty. He was assistant professor of English from 1965 to 1972 and associate professor of English from 1972 to 1985. He received tenure in 1972. He was named professor of English in 1985. As chair of the Department of English, he led a redesign of the curriculum that resulted in a 150 percent increase in declared English majors. Trained in comparative literature, especially that of the Middle Ages, Tremaine published essays on Beowulf and ancient Celtic literature. Born in Dover, N.J., in 1939, Tremaine was the son of the late Mildred Banzhof and the late Hadley E. Tremaine. Tremaine earned a doctorate of philosophy and a master of arts degree from the University of Michigan, in 1965 and 1962 respectively, and a bachelor of arts from Montclair State College in 1961. Survivors include his wife, Susan Gambrill Tremaine, and their children: Owen, Conor, Ainslee and Aidan. A memorial service will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Hood College's Coffman Chapel, with a coffee and tea hour to follow in the Campus Commons Room in the Whitaker Campus Center. Classes will be canceled during this period. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the American Heart Association and to Hood College, c/o the Development Office, 401 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701. *****Mar. 30, 2001***** Ethel Madeline Scott Gladhill Mrs. Ethel M.S. Gladhill, 90, of Damascus, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Lorien Nursing Center in Mount Airy. She was the wife of Bernard D. "Buck" Gladhill. Born Nov. 23, 1910, in Damascus, she was a daughter of the late Albert Norris and Madeline King Scott. Mrs. Gladhill graduated from Damascus High School in 1927. After graduation from Strayer College, she was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company in Washington, D.C. She returned to Damascus to marry her husband, "Buck," of 69 years. Mrs. Gladhill was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church and a Life Member of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was awarded the first Honey King Trophy by the Maryland Fireman's Association. Surviving besides her husband are three children, Mary Gladhill Grimes and her husband, Ray, of McKnightstown, Pa., Bernadine Gladhill Beall of Clarksburg and Maurice Albert Gladhill and his wife, Mary Lee, of Frederick; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Gladhill is preceded in death by her son, Samuel Upton Gladhill; a granddaughter, Joy Beall McCallum and a sister, Helen Scott Borman. Services were held on March 22 at Damascus United Methodist Church. Interment is in Damascus Methodist Cemetery. The Damascus Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary held a memorial service for Mrs. Gladhill at the Olin L. Molesworth P.A. Funeral Home on March 21.
