He was the husband for 56 years of Betty Jane Smith Beaver. The Beavers resided in Lisbon until moving to Damascus in 1954Born Feb. 19, 1922, in Lisbon, Md. he was the son of the late Paul Sr. and Catherine Elizabeth Slorp Beaver. Mr. Beaver graduated from Lisbon High School where he was very active in the FFA winning several awards for his activities in FFA. He served three years with the Army Air Signal Corp. #896 during World War II in the European Theatre Operation. After the war he returned to Maryland to study meat cutting under the GI Bill and worked for the Ellicott City Meat Locker Co. and for a short time owned and operated a traveling grocery bus in the Reistertown area. He later joined Chesapeake Cadillac in Baltimore. In 1954 he joined the Damascus Motor Co. in Damascus working there for 35 years before retiring. He was honored for 24 of those years in the Chevrolet "Legion of Leaders" Sales Award Program. Always active in the community he was a Member of the Damascus Rotary Club for 42 years until transferring to the Frederick Rotary Club in 1999. He was president of the Damascus Rotary from 1960-1962 and received a "Paul Harris Fellow" Award, Rotary's highest honor. He also participated in many Rotary District projects. Mr. Beaver chaired both Easter Seal and United Giver's Fund Campaigns for the Damascus area in the 1960s. He was a member of Lisbon Methodist Church for 15 years singing in the choir until moving to Damascus where he was a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church also singing in the choir for 25 years. He served on many church committees and was Building Finance Chairman from 1988­1993 during Montgomery Methodist $2 million building project. Mr. Beaver was a member and past commander of VFW Post #10076, Mt. Airy and Member of American Legion Post #171, Damascus. Mr. Beaver always enjoyed salt water fishing off Ocean City, Md. with friends and surf fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. After retiring he enjoyed his vegetable garden and summer flowers, and was always devoted to helping his daughters with their yards and flowers. The family wishes to express a sincere thank-you for all the Frederick area clergy that visited Mr. Beaver during his illness, especially Rev. Larry Fogle, Rev. Bert Lane, Rev. Bob Manthey and Rev. Paul Mundy. Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters Joan Buckley and her husband Bucky of Frederick; Jean Hawkins and her husband Andrew of Morgantown, W.Va.; grandchildren Katie Hawkins of Morgantown, W.Va. and Matt Hawkins of Nashville, Tenn.; sister Ella Mae Hare of Ellicott City and brother George Beaver of Clarksville. Mr. Beaver was predeceased by brothers Howard Sr. and Paul Beaver, and sisters Gladys Beaver, Anna Brosenne and Marie Underwood. Funeral services were held Oct. 27ent was held in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Marriotsville, Md. Pamela Lee Mrs. Pamela Tracey Lee, 40, of Frederick and formerly of Aspen Hill died Oct. 26 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was the wife of Robert Edward Lee III. Born Sept. 18, 1961 in Takoma Park she was the daughter of Lillian Marguerite Dayhoff Easton of Mount Airy, and the late Harold Eugene Buddy Easton, Sr. Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are three children, Janet Marie Lanier, Mary Elizabeth Lee and Robert Edward Lee IV, all of Frederick; sister Deborah Lee Finch of Mount Airy; brother Harold Eugene Easton, Jr., of Mount Airy; and mother-in-law Mary Carey of Frederick. Richard Troxell Richard Wastler Troxell, 69, of Thurmont, Maryland died of pancreatic cancer Oct. 29 at his residence. He was husband of Patricia Cianelli Troxell. Born February 18, 1932 in Detour, Md., he was the son of the late Russell and Mabel Wastler Troxell. Mr. Troxell was lifelong member of Apples United Church of. He had served on the Church Council and was very active in all phases of running the church. He worked as a truck driver for Mitchell Transport for 28 years and at the Catoctin Mountain Growers for five years. Mr. Troxell was a member of the Teamsters Union #992, a volunteer at the Thurmont Food Bank, and a member of the Thurmont Senior Citizens where he also did a lot of volunteer work. He loved to travel and has traveled all over the United States, Mexico and Canada. Added to his many credits, he was also a very devoted husband and father. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children Paul Mathis and husband Michael of Thurmont, Md., Richard Lee Troxell and wife Lisa of Coatsville, Pa., and Lu-Anne Ewing and husband Tim of Thurmont, Md.; six grandchildren, Daniel Mathis, Graham Ewing, Ben Mathis, Abby Ewing, Wilder Troxell and Shane Troxell; two sisters Margaret Carbaugh and Marian Pelkey of Thurmont, Md.; three brothers Bernard Troxell of Laurel, Md., James Troxell and Roger Troxell both of Thurmont, Md.; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Susie Cianelli; and father-in-law Nick Cianelli of Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Troxell is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends at Apples Church Family. He was predeceased by two grandchildren Brian Mathis and Gabriel Troxell and a brother Theodore Troxell. A celebration of Richard's life will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Apples United Church of Christ, 7908 Apples Church Road, Thurmont, Md. with Pastor Jan Ports officiating. Box 266, Thurmont, MD 21788. *****Nov. 29, 2001***** Ronald Mills Sr. Mr. Ronald Lee Mills Sr., 41, of Rockville died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in a home fire. Born Oct. 19, 1960, in Olney, he was a son of William K. Mills Sr. of Salisbury and the late Betty Howard Mills. He was the husband of the late Tamala (Tammy) Sue Mills, who also died in the fire. Mr. Mills attended Damascus High School. He worked as a roofer for Atlantic Roofing Co. in Rockville. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing the guitar, and singing country music. He is survived by two children, Ronald L. Mills Jr. and Shannon B. Mills, both of Rockville; his grandfather, Alfred Miller of Rockville; his stepmother, Ruth Ann Mills of Salisbury; seven sisters, Linda Chrogan of Hyattstown, Carolyn Kursey of Tennessee, Brenda Bailey of Frederick, Debbie Smith of Poolesville, Kathy Mills of Monrovia, Wanda Stanley of Damascus, and Mary Mills of Texas; five brothers, William K. Mills Jr. and Wayne Barnhouse of Frederick, Johnny W. Mills and Frankie Barnhouse of Germantown, and Robert Nicholson of Gaithersburg; one half-sister, Judy Mitchell of Salisbury; and two half-brothers, Jackie Mitchell of Salisbury and Eugene Mitchell of Germantown. Tamala Mills Mrs. Tamala Sue Mills, 41, of Rockville died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in a home fire. Born Oct. 16, 1960, in Olney, she was a daughter of Melvin L. King Jr. and Helen V. Cheney King of Rockville. She was the wife of the late Ronald L. Mills Sr., who also died in the fire. Mrs. Mills graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville and was a special education teacher at Longview School in Gaithersburg. She was a volunteer with the Rockville Baseball Association and enjoyed fishing. Surviving besides her parents are two children, Ronald L. Mills Jr. and Shannon B. Mills, both of Rockville, and two brothers, Melvin King III and Robbie King, both of Rockville. Services were held Wednesday at the Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville. Interment was in Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville. Veronica Chris Mrs. Veronica Rita Vincent Chris, 86, of 3200 Baker Circle, Adamstown, died Oct. 30, 2001, at Buckinghams Choice Nursing Home, Adamstown. She was the wife of Mr. Stephen John Chris, her husband of 61 years. Born July 14, 1915, in Detroit, Mich., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Caldwell Vincent. Mrs. Chris was a graduate of Marygrove College in Detroit, and had taught elementary school. She retired from National Geographic with 15 years of service where she worked in Membership Services. She was very devoted to her family. As her children were growing up, she participated in activities that involved her family; she was a Brownie leader. Mrs. Chris was a member of St. Josephs on Carrollton Manor Catholic Church, and before that at St. Rose's Catholic Church, Gaithersburg. Surviving besides her husband are her children, Virginia Stevens and husband Paul of Egypt, Vincent Chris and partner Allen Hustead of Arizona, Jerry Chris and wife Maureen of California, Stephanie Chris of Virginia, and Carolyn Chris of New York; her grandchildren Julie Lohmeier and husband Patrick of California, and Amy Chris of Massachusetts; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. The family received friends at Buckinghams Choice on Tuesday evening. A Christian Wake Service was offered. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Oct. 31 at at St. Josephs on Carrollton Manor, 5843 Manor Woods Road, Buckeystown. The Rev. Lawrence K. Frazier celebrated the mass. Bernice Cornthwaite Ms. Bernice Cornthwaite, 84, of Venice, Fla., passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Melbourne, Fla. Born Jan. 30, 1917 in Salem, Ala. , she moved to Venice in 1974 from California, Md., where she was a longtime resident. She worked as an administrative assistant during WWII Army Air Corps Surgeon General's Office at the Pentagon. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Cornthwaite, of Venice, Fla.; a son James E. Cornthwaite of Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter Mary Winner of Frederick; and two sisters, Murna McFarlen and Winifred Dixon of Sandgates, Md.; and three grandchildren. Donations can be made to either American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
