Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., died Thursday, Feb. 21, at his home in Frederick. He was the husband of Lillian Stone Weisberg. Born on April 8, 1913, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Frederick and Sarah Spiegle Weisberg. Mr. Weisberg was educated in public schools in Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del. He attended the University of Delaware, and was later conferred with a degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, from Hood College in 1993. Mr. Weisberg was author of seven books that revealed many government inaccuracies in the assassination of the late President John Fitzgerald Kennedy and the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hundreds of thousands of pages, papers and information obtained directly through various government agencies, and which formed the basis for his writings and conclusions, were given to Hood College in Frederick. Mr. Weisberg worked in journalism with the Wilmington Morning News and later the Philadelphia Ledger. He also worked as a Senate Committee Investigator, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and his wife lived in Hyattstown prior to moving to Frederick County, where they raised poultry on the Coq d'Or Farm. Mr. Weisberg was a renowned gourmet cook, and he and Mrs. Weisberg won many honors throughout the Delmarva region and nationally. Mr. Weisberg was named national barbecue king in 1959. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Gloria Packer and husband Marvin of Philadelphia, and Alma Handelman of Delaware; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Harry Kety. He will be remembered by his many associates, followers and historians, with whom he enjoyed spending time at his home, and sharing information and stories. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 25, at Etchison Memorial Chapel of Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Dr. W. Phillip Fogarty officiated. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. William McKinley Bopst Jr., 80, a 34-year veteran of the Frederick City Police Department, died Thursday, Feb. 21, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown. He was the husband of Gloria Swanson Bopst, his wife of 55 years. Born Oct. 14, 1921, in Frederick, he was a son of the late William McKinley Sr. and Minnie Grace Myers Bopst. Bopst was a 1941 graduate of Frederick High School, and worked for a few years with Frederick Iron & Steel before his induction into the U.S. Army during World War II. His service with 526th Quartermaster Railhead Co. carried him throughout the European Theatre of Operations, supervising German prisoners in Germany, Holland and France. He joined the Frederick City Police Department on Aug. 9, 1949, and served a distinguished career until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Frederick; a life member of Junior Fire Co.; a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 684; the Fraternal Order of Eagles; and the Francis Scott Key Post 11, American Legion, Frederick. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 92, Frederick. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Susan Elizabeth Bopst and fiancé John D. Gastley III of Yellow Springs; one brother, Jim Bopst and his wife Jane of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Georgetta Wachter and Ruth Petrus. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 25 at Etchison Memorial Chapel of the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Interment was held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Mary Alice Markey Mrs. Mary Alice Markey, 92, of Frederick, died Saturday, Feb. 23, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late David John Markey Jr., who died in 1959. Born Aug. 3, 1909, in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late Edward S. and Zourie Schroeder Mobley. Mrs. Markey was educated in local schools and graduated from Frederick High School, Class of 1926. She then received her teaching degree from Towson Normal School, and taught for a number of years in Myersville. In the early 1950s, she operated a nursery school in Frederick, until she returned to the Board of Education in the 1960s. She took a position as librarian at Parkway Elementary School, where she worked for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Frederick; the Rose Hill Garden Club; the Frederick Civic Women's Club; and the Kappa Kappa Iota sorority. Mrs. Markey was a member of the Frederick Travel Club, and enjoyed extensive travel throughout the world. Her travels at times allowed for her continued education with classes in Miami and Hawaii. She is survived by five sons: David John Markey III and wife Patricia of Bethesda; Richard Edward Markey and wife Linda of Frederick; Jay Atlee Markey and wife Dotty of Asheville, N.C.; Peter Byron Markey and wife Carol of Frederick; and Rob William Markey and wife Nanette of Frederick; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Betty Hooper, of Walkersville; and two nieces and two nephews. She is also remembered by her devoted friends and neighbors, Bud and Rose Myers. Mrs. Markey was preceded in death by one brother, Edward S. Mobley. Funeral services were held Feb. 27 at Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dr. W. Phillip Fogarty officiating. Interment was held in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Arrangements were handled by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home in Frederick. Frances N.M. Sloan Frances Naomi McBrayer Sloan, 88, of Frederick died Feb. 22, 2002. Born Nov. 16, 1913, in Barnesville, Ga., she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Willis Franklin. One of six children, Mrs. Sloan leaves behind a sister, Carolyn Brinkman, and brother, Kenneth McBrayer. Beloved mother of three children, Willis Franklin Jr., Richard Barry and William Douglas, she also had 11 grandchildren, 27 great- grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren on the way. Known as "Grammy" to most of her relatives, Mrs. Sloan moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 1950. Services will be held at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum at 200 Padonia Road East, Timonium on March 2. There will be a viewing from 9 to 10 a.m., with services at 10 a.m. *****Mar. 7, 2002***** Donny Sharp Sr. Donny Sharp Sr., 69, of Jacksboro, Tenn., died Thursday, Feb. 14 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was a member of the University Christian Church of Miami and of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He worked for National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration for 34 years, where he made and designed for NOAA several ocean measuring and research devices. He is survived by wife Dorothy Sharp; son Donny Sharp Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; two daughters Sylvia Norman of Jacksboro and Evelyn Ann Sharp of Frederick; twin brother Benny Sharp of Caryville, Tenn., and brother Cecil Sharp also of Caryville. Mr. Sharp is also survived by two grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Martin Wilson Funeral Home in LaFolette, Tenn. *****Mar. 14, 2002***** John Wellington Kitterman John Wellington Kitterman died on Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Mary Graves Cattleman for 60 years. He was the father of Janet and husband Mike Bonner of Germantown, Patty and husband Richard Charles of North Carolina, Judy and husband Daniel Leaman of Germantown and Linda and husband Robert Davidson of New York. He was the grandfather of Laura Novonty of Pennsylvania, Kristin Coposky of Pennsylvania, Jason Thompson of Frederick, Jennifer Czarniak of Germantown, Amanda Lancaster of North Carolina, Heather vonMarko of Baltimore, Julie Charles of Virginia and Christina Bonner of Walkersville. He had nine great-grandchildren. His brother, Richard Kitterman, and sister, Martha Horton, died in 1994. John was born in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 21, 1917. He was the son of the late Fred and Lyndall Kitterman of Cedar Grove. A federal government employee for 29 years, he retired in 1971 from the National Security Agency where he served as deputy director of security. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict. He retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as a captain. John served for many years on the boards of the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry and Youth for Christ. He was a member of Church of the Redeemer and was always active in the church life. Jesus Christ was his Savior. A memorial service was held on Monday, March 11, 2002, at Church of the Redeemer in Gaithersburg. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the memory of John W. Kitterman to Church of the Redeemer, 19425 Woodfield Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20879. Linda Rose Johnson Mrs. Linda Rose Johnson, 76, died Sunday, March 10, at her home in Damascus. She was the wife of William Thomas Johnson Sr. She was born March 8, 1926, in the province of Parma, Italy. She was the daughter of the late Costante and Clementina Zucconi. Before retirement, Mrs. Johnson had worked as a nurses' aide for the Montgomery County School System. Surviving besides her husband are five children: Lee Martinson of Walkersville; William T. Johnson, Jr. of Potomac Falls, Va.; Michael J. Johnson and Kevin P. Johnson both of Gaithersburg and Thomas P. Johnson of Ivyland, Pa. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. today at Saint Paul's Catholic Church, 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring.
