Born April 18, 1933 in Redland, he was a son of the late Bradley Edward, Sr. and Martha Butler Norwood. He was the husband of Dorothy M. Norwood. Mr. Norwood had attended Sherwood School in Sandy Spring. He was of the Methodist faith. He had been an independent truck driver for all of his working live. He liked Western films, watching wrestling and playing softball. He also raised horses. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Marsha Boyd of Taneytown, two grandchildren; Frankie and Matt Boyd, both of Taneytown. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, and a brother, Henry Franklin Norwood Sr. of Woodbine. Funeral services were held April 29 at the Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville. Interment was at Burtonsville Union Cemetery, Burtonsville. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Kidney Foundation or the America Heart Foundation. ***** May 15, 2002***** Mary Lee Barthel-East, 58, of 18 N. Church St., Thurmont, died on Friday, May 10, at Frederick Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born June 18, 1943, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of George J. Barthel of Braddock Heights and the late Geneva L. Barthel, who died in 1986. Mrs. Barthel lived her childhood in Braddock Heights and graduated from Middletown High School. She attained her Green Bar from the Girl Scouts of America. Mrs. Barthel has worked as a secretary for businesses in the Frederick and Washington, D.C., areas. Besides her father, she is survived by two daughters, Dona Abarca and husband Ivan of Thurmont, and Angela Palmer of Martinsburg, W.Va.; by grandchildren Ivan D., Collin and Nicole Abarca of Thurmont, and Brandy Palmer of Martinsburg; and by a brother, Donald Barthel of Funkstown. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa East, in 1981. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home in Frederick. The Rev. Burnis D. Barrett officiated. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Matthews Sr. 42, of Rocky Ridge died on Saturday, May 18 at his home. He was the husband of Lisa M. Matthews. Born on March 25, 1960 in Lakewood, NJ he was the son of William Bradley and Gloria Hutchins Matthews of Lakewood, NJ. Mr. Matthews was a 1978 Graduate of Damascus High School, a 1979 Graduate of Montgomery Junior College and graduated from the University of South Mississippi in 1985 with a degree in Education. Mr. Matthews was a teacher of Health and Physical Education in Lakewood, NJ from 1985 until 1988. At the present time Mr. Matthews was employed at the Home Depot in Frederick as a department manager. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are three sons Richard Byron Matthews Jr., David George Matthews, and Bryan Major Allen Matthews all of Rocky Ridge. One brother William B. Matthews and his wife Mona of North Carolina. One niece Karen Matthews and one nephew William B. Matthews III. Father-and-mother- in-law George F. and Nina Bitrolff of Johnsville. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23 from noon until time of memorial services at 1 p.m. at the Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, 23640 Woodfield Road, Gaithersburg. Interment will be private in Lakewood, N.J. In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial contributions be made to a college fund for Mr. Matthews sons in care of George F.
