Bailey Sr. Mr. Joseph Dee Bailey Sr., 60 of 15202 C Catoctin Mountain Highway, Thurmont, died Sunday, June 30 at his residence, after a brief battle with cancer. He was the loving husband of Catherine Ginevan Bailey whom he married March 1, 1959. Mr. Bailey was born Aug. 3, 1941 in Waynesboro, Pa., a son of the late Hubert Dee and Madlyn Brown Bailey. Mr. Bailey was the founder and president of Bailey's Logging and Forestry Products Inc. He was a former member of the Thurmont Church of the Brethren, and he managed a team in the Thurmont Minor League. He was a member of the N.R.A. and the Thurmont Jaycees. He also supported Thurmont Boy Scouts, 4-H clubs, and many church organizations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, working and spending time with his family. Surviving in addition to his wife Catherine are four children, Joseph Dee Bailey Jr. and wife Donna, Lavina Bailey Clem and husband Jerry, all of Thurmont; Craig W. Bailey and wife Martha, David H. Bailey and wife Donna, all of Gettysburg, Pa.; 12 grandchildren, Jeremy and Katelyn Bailey, Amanda, Marissa, and Jarin Clem, all of Thurmont, William, Elisha, Rebecca, Marsha, and Sara Bailey, David Bailey Jr., and Ashton Bailey all of Gettyburg, Pa.; two sisters, Lois R. Bailey Griffith and husband Nolan of Thurmont and Vera Jean Bailey Benchoff and husband Stanley of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ina Lorraine Ginevan of Gettysburg, Pa. He will be remembered by many friends and business associates. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 3, at the funeral home with the Rev. Ruth Ann Miller, pastor of Weller's United Methodist Church, Thurmont, officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Bailey's name to the Weller's United Methodist Church, 101 North Altamont Ave., Thurmont, MD 21788.
