She was the wife of the late Ferdinand Vincent Marsik, who died Jan. 7, 2001. They were married 61 years. Ms. Marsik was born June 3, 1919, in New York, N.Y., to John and Anna Truhlar Reidl. They preceded her in death. Mrs. Marsik was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood serving as president of a chapter and was active in the founding of a new chapter in Frederick. She was a member of the Brook Hill United Methodist Church in Frederick, where she was active in the Wise Owl's Club. She was a graduate of Julia Richman High School in New York City and Packard Business School, also in New York City. She is survived by: one son, Frederic John Marsik, of New Freedom, Pa.; one daughter, Janne Marsik Cumings of Germantown; two granddaughters and two grandsons; two great-grandsons; one sister, Edith R. Frederick of Walnut Creek, Cal.; and one brother, John Joseph Reidl of Roanoke, Va. Services took place Wednesday at Brook Hill United Methodist Church in Frederick. The Rev. Conrad Link officiated. Arrangements were handled by Stauffer Funeral Home in Frederick. Interment will be private. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702. *****Oct. 17, 2002***** Judith Lorette Russell Mrs. Judith Lorette "Judy" Russell, 48,of 9029 Spring Valley Drive, Frederick, died on Friday Oct. 11, at her home. She was the Wife of J. Edgie Russell. Born in Merced, Calif., on April 29, 1954, she was the daughter of Richard J. Lorette, of Massanutten, Va. and Barbara Debnam Lorette, of Gaithersburg. Mrs. Russell earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from American University, her Masters in Nursing and Health Policy from the University of Maryland and was a certified Oncology Nurse. She was employed as a technical adviser for quality by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Baltimore, where she had also served as a Special Assistant to the Acting Director and was a 1999 recipient of the Administrators Achievement Award. Judy had a long history of government and healthcare service having a pediatric oncology nurse at the National Cancer Institute and a consultant for the law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton. Mrs. Russell also authored numerous articles in professional and business publications, including the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and was a contributing author to recent a book sponsored by the American Bar Association "Guide to Medicare Decision Making and Appeals" as well as contributing to a recent text book "Policy & Politics in Nursing and Health Care." She was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church and the great hall choir. She had formally also been a member of the Saint Marks Episcopal Church and choir, as well as serving as the parish representative to the Diocesan convention. Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are her twin daughters, Jennifer L. Collins and Christine E. Collins, both of Frederick, and step children, John Russell and Jessica Russell, also of Frederick; three sisters, Joanne Cato of Rockville, Jeanne M. Titus of Gaithersburg and Patricia A. Phillips, of Beavercreek, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Judy will also be remembered by her step mother, Jan Lorette, of Massanutten, Va., and friends Ginny Dowski and Meg and John Waclawsky of Frederick. There were no hours of visitation at the funeral home. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 West Church St. The Rev. James Seale, rector of the church officiated. Inurnment will be private at a later date. Keeney and Basford Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Nowstup Eldon Nowstup, 78, died on Oct. 19, 2002 with his family by his side in Walkersville. Please join us in celebrating Eldon's life and out love for him at St. Timothy's Church, Walkersville, today at 3 p.m., followed by a reception at his home. Eldon was born Aug.13, 1924, into a truly American family. His Danish father immigrated through Ellis Island in 1902 and in 1906 began farming in western North Dakota with a 160-acre Federal Homesteader Grant. His mother was a first- generation American of Swedish decent who was born in Dakota Territory (before statehood). Eldon and Catherine (Kay) Gall, of New England, N.D., were married July 12, 1949, and in 1951 moved to Washington, D.C. Following Navy service in WWII, with aid of the GI Bill and after four and a half years of year-round study, Eldon graduated in 1951 with a master's degree in nuclear physics from the University of North Dakota. Eldon was involved in on-site testing of the world's first hydrogen bomb (1952) and developing the nuclear reactor in the Nation's Capital (U.S. Naval Research Lab 1957-65); held positions with AEC, ERDA, and DOE (1965-79); was nuclear reactor safety consultant to the Navy at McMurdo Station (South Pole 1971); served as the first chairman of the Federal Interagency Metrication Operating Committee (1976-79). Following retirement from the federal government in 1979, Eldon was a consultant to government and industry on nuclear safety, facilities management, and technical standards, and on promoting acceptance of the metric system in the United States (1979-93). Awards and acknowledgements include publication in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in America, and membership in Sigma XI (honorary scientific society). Retirement activities included president of the Frederick Chapter of NARFE, Maryland's largest chapter, and president of a 600-member travel club with whom Eldon and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Eldon is survived by Kay, his wife of 53 years, and three children, all graduates of the University of Maryland: Dennis Nowstrup of Austin, Texas; Sandra Thompson of Visaia, Calif.; and Karen Hogarth of Fairfax, Va. Eight grandchildren loved and entertained Grandpa: Katherine and Grace Nowstrup, Kayla, Ian and Kevin Thompson, and Eric, Carlie and Allison Hogarth. In lieu of flowers, Eldon asked that donations be made for his seven-year-old granddaughter's liver transplant expenses. She was the wife of Gaetan Paul CloutierŽ. Born Sept. 2, 1952 at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Earl Buford and Helen Hood Bledsoe. Mrs. CloutierŽ was the president of C & C Construction Inc. and a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: two children, Melissa Ann Compton and her husband Shawn Compton of Damascus, and Jason Paul CloutierŽ and his wife Heidi CloutierŽ of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Zachary Lee Compton and Connar Paul CloutierŽ; two brothers, Wain E. Bledsoe of Laurel, and Dwight Bledsoe of Wheaton. Mrs. CloutierŽ is remembered by a special friend, since childhood, Sheila P. Pridgen of North Beach, a special child Christopher, and many loving brothers- in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Funeral services took place on Oct. 30. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Molesworth P.A., Funeral Home.
