Tyeryar James E. Tyeryar, 70, of Cohasset and West Yarmouth, Mass., died June 26 at his home after a brief illness. Mr. Tyeryar was a resident of Cohasset for 40 years as well as a general contractor in the South Shore area, and the original owner of the Cohasset Heights Landfill. Originally from Frederick, Mr. Tyeryar worked on government projects at Camp David and Fort Detrick, and did general contracting in the area. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW posts. During the Korean War, he served as a staff sergeant in the Air Force, in Tule, Greenland. He was also a member of the board of directors at the Pilgrim Co-op Bank for many years and was on the Finance and Building Committee. He also served as an usher at St. Anthony's Parish for many years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eilleen (Mello), and his daughters, Ann E. Tyeryar of Westmouth, and Kathleen Milani of West Palm Beach, Fla., and his grandson, Andrew Henry of Boston. He was the brother of Charles and his wife Gloria, of North Fort Myers, Fla., Harry of Frederick, and Mary Hubbard and her husband Bill of Reading, Mass. James was also survived by his many in-laws, and nieces and nephews. A funeral mass was held in St. Anthony's Church on Monday. Internment took place at Woodside Cemetery, Cohasset. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Baystate Drive, P.O. Box 859060, Braintree, MA 02185, or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney St., Boston, MA 02115. Arrangements were handled by the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Homes, Cohasset. *****July 24, 2003***** Donna Jean Damrow Mrs. Donna Jean Damrow, 74, of Austin, Texas, died on Friday, July 18 at her residence. She was the wife of the late Jack Damrow, who died in 1990. Born on July 5, 1929, in Minneapolis, she was the daughter of the late Harold Alan and Eva Marie Kinnie Van Dusen. She was a 1949 graduate of Greenway High School in Colerain, Minn. She worked at several places during her lifetime. From helping out as a printer fro the local paper that her father owned, such as Glen Park Herald in Gary, Ind., and Bovey Press in Bovey, Minn., she worked at Kresgies of Duluth, Minn. (now Kmart); Woolworth's in Elmira, N.Y. and Corning, N.Y.; Corning Public Library; J.C. Penney in Las Vegas; Election Board in Las Vegas; McDonalds in Georgetown, Texas; KFC in Cedar Park, Texas; Sears in Cedar Park; TJ Maxx in Cedar Park; and ran her own business, Jean and Gaylene Artistic Expressions. She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary of the American Legion in the 1940s, while also serving as a member of the Color Guard. She was also a member of the Purple Heart Auxiliary and the Legion Auxiliary. While a member of the Navy Mothers, she received a degree of honor. During her time living in Las Vegas, she was a Girl Scout leader for several years. During her life in Texas, she was a member of numerous Extension Homemakers and Family Community Education clubs, serving offices from secretary, reporter and counsel delegate. After Austin got a new CBS affiliate, Donna was a volunteer for the KEYE-TV station in the weather department, where she was known as Donna from Oatmeal. She has been a member of AARP and chairman of some of their committees. In 1996, Mrs. Damrow was one of the first in Burnet County, Texas, to receive awards for her volunteer hours. She accumulated over 5,000 hours volunteering in the following areas: American Legion Auxiliary, AARP, Girl Scouts, Cumberland Presbyterian Church, FCE Council, Bertram Nursing Home, American Intercultural Student Exchange, 911 system in Burnet County, Burnet County 4-H, Oatmeal Festival, Burnet County Fair and Rodeo, driving the handicapped, Bertram Library, collecting aluminum cans, and helping out after the Oklahoma City bombing. She was a member of different churches: United Presbyterian Church, Corning, during which time she worked in the church's library; First Presbyterian Church, Las Vegas, where she was a Sunday school teacher; Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Bertram, Texas, where she was a Sunday school teacher, helped in the church library and was an elder; New Hope Presbyterian Church, Frederick; and Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Austin. Surviving are four children: Sue L. Sharpe and husband Rickie of Rapid City, S.D., Eileen K. Brown and husband Bill of Austin, Barbara K. Crocker and husband Glenn of Rome, Ga., and Nancy G. Damrow of Frederick; five grandchildren, Michael Damrow, Teresa Weier, Christopher Crocker, Jamie Crocker and Tanea Brown; one great-grandson, Dominick Weier; a brother, Harold A. Van Dusen and wife Joyce of Milwaukee; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Damrow was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Weier, and a sister, Marie E. Hafner. A memorial service was held Tuesday at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Frederick, with the Rev. Richard N. Ellis officiating. Internment took place Wednesday at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 216 Carroll Parkway, Frederick, MD 21701. Local arrangements were handled by Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick. Alvin L. "Butch" Fritz Alvin L. "Butch" Fritz, 59, of Damascus died on Monday, July 21, at Montgomery General Hospital. He was the husband of Louise B. Fritz. Born in Frederick on Jan. 13, 1944, he was the son of Alvin L. Poole of Frederick and the late Rhoda Ellen Crummit. Mr. Fritz was the owner of the Olde Towne Restaurant and Catering in Mount Airy for the last eight years. Before that, he worked for Tom and Ray's restaurant in Damascus for 13 years. Surviving, in addition to his wife and father, are children Corby Fowler and her husband Charles of Frederick; Monica German and her husband Troy of Frederick; and Bruce Fritz of New Market; grandchildren Nicholas Fowler, Alyssa Fowler and Gavin German; brothers, Jim Fritz of Oklahoma and Charles Fritz of Frederick; sisters Betty Conaway of Baltimore, Mary Brashear of West Virginia, Pat Rhinecker of Damascus, Ella Mae Bolton of Damascus and Sally Dodd of Mount Airy. Friends may call on Friday from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road in Damascus, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fritz's name should be made to the Autism Society of Frederick County, 7193 D Cypress Court, Frederick, MD 21703. *****July 31, 2003***** Bertha E. Mayne Mrs. Bertha E. Mayne, 87, of Mount Airy died on Sunday, July 20 at her home. She was the wife of the late Ralph Mayne. Born on May 13, 1916, in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Butt. Surviving are children Earl Edward Bolton Jr. and his wife Ella Mae of Damascus; Ellen Cox and her husband James of Germantown; Margaret Blanton and her husband Vance of Mount Airy; Ralph Edward Mayne and his wife Ina of Mount Airy; Betty Jane Stone and her husband Calvin of Frederick; and Karen Delph and her husband Frank of Mount Airy. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and remembered by special friends Jenny Bruchie, Darlene McGreevy and Kim Stillions. Two children, Dorothy Russ and Kenneth Bolton, preceded Mrs. Mayne in death. Mrs. Mayne's family would like to thank the Hospice of Frederick County and the Senior Home Care of Frederick for their help. Arrangements were handled by the Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home, Damascus. The Rev. Wallace Lusk officiated at the July 24 funeral. Interment was in Poplar Springs Methodist Cemetery, Poplar Springs.
