Fonda Jr. John E. Fonda Jr., 46, of Frederick, died Feb. 27, 2004, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He was the husband of Karen Kephart Fonda and the father of John E. Fonda III. Born Oct. 17, 1957, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Vicky McLane and the late John E. Fonda Sr. of Texas. Mr. Fonda was a 1976 graduate of Cherokee County High School in Georgia. Following his graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid sports fan, and particularly enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Duke Blue Devils. He was employed as comptroller for WFT Engineering in Rockville. Surviving, in addition to his wife and son, are his mother, Vicky McLane of Germantown; his sister, Suzanne, her husband Bart Poole, and their daughter Michelle of Germantown; his brother, Michael Fonda of Texas; and his in-laws, Margaret Ann and Reggie Kephart of Frederick. Olin L. Molesworth Funeral Home in Damascus handled the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1415 W. 7th St., Frederick. Johnson, 70, of Mount Airy died Thursday, March 4, 2004, after an automobile accident. He was the husband of Patricia Roher Johnson for 41 years. Born May 27, 1933, in Wells Tannery, Pa., he was the son of the late Ralph Johnson and Marie Johnson Weaver of Everett, Pa., Mr. Johnson retired from Damascus High School where he was a teacher and coach for 30 years. After retiring, he served as mayor of Mount Airy for 12 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served as a medic during the Korean War. He was a member the American Legion and a life member and quartermaster for Counties Four VFW Post 10076 for more than 30 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Buck and his wife Brenda of Clearville, Pa., Chip and his wife Karen of Jefferson and Brian and his wife Marissa of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, two step-brothers, James Weaver and wife Doris of Six Mile Run, Pa., and George Weaver and wife Vera of Everett, Pa. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today and Friday at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 Ridgeville Boulevard, Mount Airy. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 13, at 1 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy. Burial will be in Pine Grove Chapel, Mount Airy. Burroughs Alfreda May Burroughs, 82 of Sunrise Assisted Living in Frederick, died March 6, 2004, at her residence. Born Dec. 10, 1922, in Grafton, W.V., she was a daughter of the late William C. and Gayhrea Riley Fisher. She was the wife of Walter Stanley Burroughs, who died December 1950. Mrs. Burroughs was a member of Kensington United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was on various committees. She had been employed by the FBI and later with the Food and Drug Administration. She was an avid poetry writer. She is survived by two sons, Michael S. Burroughs and wife Janet Marie of Frederick and Richard S. Burroughs of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Fisher Bookhultz. A private family service was arranged by Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes in Frederick. Liebno Hartman, 97, of Sykesville, formerly of Rockdale, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Golden Age Guest Home, Sykesville. She was born Jan. 22, 1907, in Rockdale, Md., the daughter of the late August Edward Liebno Sr. and the late Lillie E. Reiblich Liebno. She was the wife of the late Dwight E. Hartman Sr. She was a housewife and storekeeper. She was the mother of Dwight E. Hartman Jr. of Granite and Carl M. Hartman of Randallstown. She is also survived by six grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 15 at Burrier-Queen Funeral Directors, P.A., Winfield, with the Dr. Rev. Colin Phillips of Salem United Methodist Church in Hebbville, officiating, Interment will be in Mt. Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery, Randallstown. Lillie Mae Nettles-Frederick Lillie Mae Nettles-Frederick, 82, died Jan. 7, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Parthenia and Chafe Hurd, and the wife of James Frederick, who lived with her in Lexington, Ky. Previously a resident of Montgomery County, Mrs. Frederick worked for G.C. Murphy Co. and Nedley Jewelers in Rockville. Surviving Mrs. Frederick, in addition to her husband, are two sons: Ronald Nettles of Frederick and Theodore Nettles and wife Ann of Mount Airy; one grandchild, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were provided by Kerr Brothers funeral home in Lexington, Ky. Charles 'Freddie' Rheubottom Jr. Charles "Freddie" Rheubottom Jr., 63, of Sykesville, died Thursday, March 11, 2004. Born Nov. 21, 1940, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Charles "Butt" and Evelyn Rheubottom. He was the husband of Mary Mabe-Rheubottom of Sykesville. He had been employed by the Baltimore Luggage Company, Henryton Center and London Fog. He was the organist for many churches which included White Rock and Fairview United Methodist Churches. He was also involved in the band Everyday People. He enjoyed camping, fishing, his family and friends. Surviving in addition to his wife are children Lanise Deshields, Donell Rheubottom and Chanel Rheubottom, both of Sykesville, Tashika Abrecht of Frederick and Freda Rheubottom of Colorado, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Rhonda Rheubottom of Sykesville, aunt Bernice Slaughter of Westminster, mother- in-law and traveling partner Ann Mabe of Sykesville and five grandchildren. Magers Jr. Charles Upton Magers Jr., 63, of Monrovia, and formerly of Gaithersburg, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 3, 1940 in Olney, he was a son of the late Charles Upton Sr. and Florence Ritenour Magers. He was the husband of Carolyn A. (Thompson) Magers. Mr. Magers was a 1959 graduate of Gaithersburg High School. He also attended Montgomery College in Rockville. He served in the Maryland National Guard and Army Reserves for eight years. He was a sheet metal worker and also a draftsman and designer. He worked in heating and air-conditioning as a mechanic. He was also a self-employed tinsmith and coppersmith. Survivors in addition to his wife include three children, Kenneth C. Magers and wife Cheryl of Thurmont, Robert P. Magers and wife Amanda of Frederick, Julie L. Magers of Thurmont; two sisters, Mary E. Repass of Silver Spring and Patricia E. Oland of Gaithersburg; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held March 20, with interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick.
