DeCubellis, Helen Benton DeCubellis, 85, formerly of Centreville, died on Thursday, March 25, 2004, at the Northwest Hospital Center. Born on Sept. 9, 1918, in Centreville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel George and Helen Davis Benton. She was the wife of the late Stephen DeCubellis who died in 2003. She and her husband lived in Centreville for most of their lives. She had worked as a supervisor in the bookbinding area for the original Record Observer. She had attended Washington College. She had volunteered at the Corsica Nursing Home for 20 years in addition to being a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Centreville American Legion. Mrs. DeCubellis was a longtime member of the Centreville United Methodist Church. She belonged to the "Crab Luncheon Club" and was known for her love of family. She is survived by a son, Stephen DeCubellis of Lakeland, Fla., daughter Helen D. Derwin of Sykesville, grandsons Stephen D. and Gregory J. DeCubellis, both of Laurel, and James P. Derwin of Venice Beach, Cal., and great-grandson Stephen Gregory DeCubellis of Laurel. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Centerville United Methodist Church. He was born Dec. 25, 1921 in Woodbine, the son of the late LeRoy Harrison and Edna Leatherwood Harrison. He was the husband of Marguerite M. Franklin Harrison. He was a farmer, an avid hunter and loved fishing and playing cards. Surviving, aside from his wife are daughter Shirley Y. Dubbert and her husband William F. of Woodbine; sister Beatrice Knill of Woodbine; niece Doris L. Condon of Woodbine; grandsons Sterling William Dubbert of Annapolis and David A. Dubbert of Woodbine and great-grandson Sterling William Dubbert, Jr. of Annapolis. He was predeceased by a sister, Gladys Snow. Knight Iola Rousey Knight, 91, of Sykesville, died on Sunday, March 28, 2004, at the Chapel Hill Convalescent Center, Randallstown. Born on Feb. 3, 1913, in Weldon, Ill., she was the daughter of the late George and Maude Baker Gallagher. She was predeceased by husbands, James Lloyd Rousey, Sr., Glenn Goodrich and Cornelius Knight. She had been a seamstress in dress making for many years. She moved to Maryland in 1988 from Illinois. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. James and Ruth Ann Rousey of Sykesville; brother Gerald Gallagher of Collinsville, Ill., grandsons and their wives, James W. and Tammy Rousey and John Mark and Shannon Rousey; and great-grandchildren Matthew Kushel, Patrick Rousey, Justin Rousey, Megan Kushel and Connor Rousey. A funeral service was held Wednesday at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville. Interment will be in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville. Theresa F. Strohminger Theresa F. Salchunas Strohminger, 93, of Mount Airy, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Continuum Care at Sykesville. She was born Aug. 23, 1910, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late William Salchunas and the late Theresa Duback Salchunas. She was the wife of Melvin Strohminger. She was an executive assistant for Hutzlers Brothers department store in Baltimore for 16 years and then a homemaker. Survivors, aside from her husband, are sons Robert F. Strohminger of Mount Airy and M. Sears and wife Nancy Morel Strohminger of Baltimore; sisters Edna Siebert of Catonsville and Mildred Marriner of Hagerstown; and grandchildren Nina S., and Margot F. both of Baltimore and Mitchell S. Strohminger of New York City. She was predeceased by siblings George and Anton Salchunas, Margaret Brook and Elizabeth Taylor. "Julie" Stottlemyer, 87, of Frederick, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, died March 28, 2004, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Oscar L. Stottlemyer. "Gene" Callahan, 79, of Mount Airy died on Sunday, March 14, 2004, in Georgia. He was the husband of the late Alverta Cowan Callahan who died in 1978. Born on March 16, 1924, in Mount Airy, he was the son of the late Howard Gilmore and Dora Elizabeth Scott Callahan. Mr. Callahan was a general construction inspector for the U.S. Government at Ft. Meade. He was a 1941 graduate of Mount Airy High School. Mr. Callahan served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was the Past Commander of American Legion Post 38 in Dundalk as well as the Forty and Eight Club and the Voiture Club 1230. Mr. Callahan is survived by a brother, Robert G. Callahan of Mount Airy. He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Leslie Jane Callahan and Patty Callahan; and a brother, Leo Callahan. Graveside services and inurnment will take place at 11 a.m. today at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5829 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. Earl Nellie Bennett Gardner Earl, 83, of Keymar, and formerly of Sykesville, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. Born May 5, 1920, in Sykesville, she was the daughter of the late George Nathaniel Gardner and Mabel Bennett. Ms. Gardner was a 1937 graduate of Sykesville High School. She served as a junior hostess with the USO during WWII. From 1954 to 1968 she lived in Guam and in Rome, Italy. Following her 1968 return to Carroll County, she became a 1970 graduate of the Practical Nursing School of the Department of Mental Hygiene at Springfield Hospital. In 1985, she retired from the State of Maryland after completing 16 years of employment at Springfield Hospital and Henryton Center. She was a lifelong member of Wesley Freedom United Methodist Church and during the last several years, actively involved with Westminster United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Fabrick. Surviving are her children, George Earl of Ellicott City, Susan Earl Michau of Woodbine, Maria Earl Pobre of Guam, Tomas Earl of Montgomery Village, and Carla Earl Trump of Westminster; her sons-in-law Danny I. Gallo, 72, of Randallstown, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at his home. He was born March 30, 1932 in Brockway, Pa., the son of the late Peter Gallo and the late Thressa Volpe Gallo. He was the husband of Teresa Verderaime Gallo. His education was Chartered Life Underwriter from American College of Life Underwriters in 1967. He was an agent, life insurance sales and service and securities investment for Peoples Life Ins., Lincoln National and mainly from Mass Mutual Life Ins. Co., since August 1967. He was a member and an Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Randallstown. He was a corporal in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Baltimore Life Underwriters; Association of Chartered Life Underwriters. Survivors, as well as his wife include children Maria G. Agiato and husband Joseph of Garden City, N.Y., Anthony P. Gallo and wife Wendy of Cockeysville, Gina G. Dembeck and husband R. Terrence of Perry Hall, and Carla G. Thibault, 76, of Frederick died April 5, 2004, at his home. Born Jan. 4, 1928 in Woonsocket, R.I., he was the son of the late Aime and Parmelia Nault Thibault. He was the husband of Arlene M. Bruce Thibault. Mr. Thibault studied at Blessed Sacrament Fathers Seminary for 10 years prior to entering the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. He later entered government service and worked for the CIA for 28 years. After his retirement, he worked as a contributing writer for "The Word Among Us," a Christian magazine. He also spent 25 years in Christian ministry to nursing homes in the Washington, D.C. area. Mr. Thibault and his wife moved to Frederick four years ago to participate in Cornerstone Fellowship. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Jeanne Dillon and her husband, Jack, of Gaithersburg, and Theresa Keller and her husband, Mike, of Leesburg, Va.; one son, James E. Thibault of San Diego; one sister, Helen Uhren of Sacramento; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by four brothers, the Rev. Beck Jr., 73, of Asheville, N.C., and formerly of Damascus, died at his home on April 6, 2004. Born June 29, 1930 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John and Yvonne Beck. He was the husband of Lily Gleeson Beck. After graduating from the Veterinary School at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Beck served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He was the owner of the Damascus Veterinary Hospital for 30 years, during which time he and his wife raised three daughters. While living in Damascus, Dr. Beck served terms as president of both the local Rotary Club and the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association. He was an avid sailor who enjoyed cruising on the Chesapeake Bay as well as offshore. He completed every course offered by the U.S. Power Squadron, and volunteered his time to teach piloting and celestial navigation to other boaters. Other interests included beekeeping, gardening, and woodworking. He and his wife retired to North Carolina in 1988. Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Margaret Beck and her husband, Michael Blume, of Orinda, Calif., Judy Beck and her husband, Jerome Hay, of Barnardsville, N.C., and Sarah Tokar and her husband, John, of Silver Spring; two sisters; and five grandchildren. He was the husband of Jane Daniels Bryner. Born July 26, 1937, in Dunbar Township, Pa., he was a son of the late James Isaac and Thelma Ruth Smithley Bryner. Mr. Bryner had been employed as a construction inspector for the Maryland National Park and Planning Commission. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Knights of Columbus in Rockville. Surviving besides his wife Janet are son James I. Bryner II and his wife Angela of Lake Linganore, and one sister and one brother. Services and interment are private. Born Feb. 13, 1938 in Cabin John, he was the son of the late Clarence Edward and Mabel E. Oden Curtis. He was the husband of Mary Edna Painter Curtis. Mr. Curtis was a carpenter for Campco Builders Inc. in Stanley, Va. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Rebecca Sarvela of Clarksville, Tenn., and Rita A. Blair of Wiley Ford, W. Va.; three sons, Clarence B. Curtis Jr. of Gaithersburg, Rex W. Curtis of Great Cacapon, W.Va., and Thomas E. Deckelman Audrey Margaret Morman Deckelman, 78, of Granite, Md., died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. She was born Nov. 9, 1925, in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Henry Morman and the late Elizabeth Morman. She was the wife of the late Michael F. Deckelman Sr. She was retired from the U.S. Post Office in Woodstock. Survivors include a son, Michael F. Deckelman Jr. and wife Joyce of Woodstock; grandchildren Tracy Deckelman-Metts and Michael F. Knox, 74, of Buffalo Valley, Tenn., formerly of Damascus, died from complications of a stroke on March 20, 2004, in Carthage, Tenn. Born March 6, 1930, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Melville and Lela Hardy Knox. He was the husband of Mary Lynn McLean Knox for 25 years. Mr. Knox graduated from Blair High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a retired auto mechanic and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Debbie Knox of Maryland and Brenda Knox of Virginia; five stepchildren, Andrea Brickman of Damascus, Bob Bailey and Paul Bailey of Thurmont, Kathy Bender of Hartwood, Va., and George Bailey of Libertytown; one sister, Delores Knox of Gaithersburg; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Born Nov. 30, 1942 in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Walter Zolkiewicz and Wilma Oroyk. He was the husband of Barbara Zolkiewicz for 36 years. Mr. Zolkiewicz graduated from Irvington High School in 1960 and graduated from Seton Hall University in 1964. He worked at Comtech Mobile Datacom Corp. as a senior contracts administrator. Green George Earl Green, 90, of Randallstown, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his home. Born Oct. 14, 1913, in Maryland, he was the son of the late George W. and Estella Dell Green. He was the husband of Lois Virginia Green of Randallstown, his wife of 56 years. He served with the U.S. Army from 1940-43. He enjoyed bowling and gardening. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son David Earl Green of Manchester; daughter and son-in-law Virginia Ann and Charles Hoffman of Crownsville; brothers Yewdell Green of Owings Mills and Eugene Green of Randallstown; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Robinson Shirley Luray Robinson, 80, of Westminster, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at the home of her son in Westminster. Born on Oct. 20, 1923, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ada Larrimore. She was the wife of the late Francis Xavier Robinson who died in 1968. She had been a homemaker for most of her life and an administrative assistant in earlier years. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law John and Denise Robinson of Spring Grove, Pa., and Scott and Patti Robinson of Westminster; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert "Bud" and Rita Larrimore of Westminster and Dawson "Ben" and Margaret Larrimore of Westminster; nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Phipps-McNair formerly of Annapolis. A funeral service was held April 16 at the Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville. Officiating was Pastor Norm Smith. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Charles R. Browning Charles Robert Browning, 79, of Mount Airy died April 16 of heart disease at Washington Hospital Center. He was born May 9, 1934 in Mount Airy to the late Lindsay L .and Mary O. Browning. During WWII he served in the 17th Airborne and participated in the jump over the Rhine. Mr. Browning owned a grocery store in Mount Airy from 1948 through 1973 and also owned and operated an Erie Insurance Agency for 35 years. He was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed travel, music and wood-working. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Mae Browning; four children Barbara J. Runkles of Mechanicsville, Ruth Ann Benson of New Market, Robert E. Browning of Mount Airy and Joseph L Browning of Reston, Va.; eight grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held April 19 at the Olin L. Brandenburg Milton "Monk" Brandenburg, 79, formerly Frederick, who had resided at Homewood at Crumland Farms, died on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Julia Emily "Judy" Brandenburg for more than 50 years. Born on June 17, 1924, in Eldersburg, he was the son of the late Henry S. and Susan Eugenia Bennett Brandenburg. He graduated from Sykesville High in 1941. He worked from 1941 to 1943 at the Clenn L. Marin Co., Middle River, building the B-26 Bomber. Mr. Brandenburg served in the U.S. Navy "Seabees" during World War II from 1943 to 1946, during this time 16 months was spent in the Pacific. He returned to the Clenn L. Martin Co., for a short time, then in 1947 he was employed by the C&P Telephone Co., where he retired from on April 1, 1985, after 36 years of service. He was a member of Cavalry United Methodist Church, Frederick. While residing in the Mount Airy area for 25 years, he was a member and active volunteer in the Mount Airy American Legion Gold Star Post 191. After moving to Frederick in 1975, he was a member of the AARP and the Frederick Moose Lodge371. He was a life member of the following organizations: Telephone Pioneers, Navy Seabees Veterans of America, Frederick AmVets Post 2, Emmitsburg VFW Post 6658, Frederick B.P.O. Elks Lodge 684 and the Frederick American Legion FSK Post 11. He had been an active volunteer at the Frederick B.P.O Elks Lodge 684, Frederick American Legion FSK Post 11 and had visited at Martinsburg V.A. Hospital many times. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Milton L "Ted" Brandenburg and wife Lois of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Leona K. Johnson of Westminster and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris E. Gartrell and Eleanor L. Ford. Graveside funeral services and interment were held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick on April 26, with the Rev. Born May 17, 1923, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Raymond and Hattie Wheatley Chenoweth. He was the husband of Irva Catherine Robeson Chenoweth of Westminster. They had been married for 48 years. He was a retired chemist for the U.S. government. He was a member of the 27th Flag Division of the American Legion in Arbutus. Naughton Judy Ann Naughton, 50, of Manchester, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. Born Nov. 13, 1953, in Maryland, she was the daughter of Charles Russell Jenkins Jr. and Madge Marie Alder Jenkins of Sykesville. She was the wife of Patrick Alan Naughton of Manchester. She was a 1971 graduate of South Carroll High School. She attended Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. She was a homemaker. Surviving, in addition to her parents and her husband, are son Benjamin A. Fleming of Manchester, daughters Amber L. Fleming of Westminster and Megan Ann Fleming of Manchester, stepchildren Mary K. Martin and her husband Rudolph, Michael P. Naughton and Carrie A. Naughton, all of Reisterstown and step- grandchildren Kiersten E., Rudolph J. and Ian Martin, all of Reisterstown. Funeral services were held April 24 from Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment is in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. Yolanda D. Burroughs Yolanda Dewhirst Burroughs, of Lake Anna, Va., formerly of Sliver Spring, Md., passed away suddenly on April 25, 2004. She was born June 21, 1933 in Washington D.C. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Armistead "Army" Burroughs, Jr.; their children, Frances Burroughs of Williamsburg, Va., Earl Burroughs and his wife Karen of Monrovia, Angela Stubbs and her husband John of Gaithersburg, Joyce James and her husband Kirk of Rockville. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, a sister, Christine Mathews and her husband Bill of Ijamsville. A funeral mass will be conducted on at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Jude's Catholic Church Louisa, Va. with Rev. Rodney Rodis officiating. A reception will follow the mass.
