Cutsail William E. Cutsail, 78, of Cape St. Claire and formerly of Carroll County, died from cancer on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at his home. Born in Gaither on Feb. 18, 1926, Mr. Cutsail lost his father at the age of two and was raised by his loving and devoted grandparents, the late Lewis and Drusilla Thomas. He was the husband of Dorale "Dot" Cutsail of Cape St. Claire. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1943 and served on Destroyer Escort Ingram. During his enlistment he crossed the Atlantic 18 times, was a torpedo man second class, earned five medals including: American Campaign, European, Africa and Middle Eastern Campaign, Good Conduct, World War II medal and 50th Anniversary World War II medal. He loved his country and was honored to serve. As a craftsman, he enjoyed making "grandchildren chairs," cradles and deacon benches for the entire family. He and his wife claimed to have raised a "village of children" sponsoring children through World Vision and caring for many neighborhood children. Visiting one of the little girls in Seoul, Korea, was a highlight for Mr. Cutsail. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter Carol, a son David, a sister Gloria, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services are private, with a memorial service by the Masons. Interment is in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church. Dickerson, 87, of Woodbine, formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Continuum Care, Sykesville. He was the husband of Natalie Virginia Hawkins Dickerson. He was born March 10, 1916, in Goodview, Va., the son of the late John Paul and Helen McFiggan Dickerson. Mr. Dickerson was a scheduler for CSX railways. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Emily Solomon of Woodbine, granddaughter Sarah Bassett and her husband Nathaniel of Woodbine and great- grandsons Alex, Scott and Steve Bassett. MacBurney Ada Margaret Lynn MacBurney, 94, formerly of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Uniontown, Pa., died Friday, April 30, 2004 ,at Senior Constant Care in Sykesville. She was wife of the late Wilbur S. MacBurney. She was born Aug. 8, 1909, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, the youngest of five children to Clarence and Henderson Lynn. She graduated from Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing in 1929 and spent close to 35 years doing private duty nursing in Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Daytona Beach. She belonged to the Uniontown, Pa., No. 263 Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Lynne and Burt Over of Sykesville, granddaughter: Cathy and husband John Boteler of Laurel, grandson David Over, Sr., four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Henderson Lynn, and sisters, Wilda McFarland, Betty Sangston and Georgia Frankhouser. A memorial service was held May 3, with the Rev. "Margy" Naylor, 48, of Mount Airy died on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at her residence. She was the wife of Ricky C. Naylor, for 16 years. Born on Oct. 17, 1955, in Baltimore County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hughes and Alice Burch Hughes of Towson. Mrs. Naylor was a homemaker. She enjoyed evangelizing and bringing people to the church. Surviving in addition to her husband and mother are two children; Britney Naylor and Kyle Naylor both at home; two brothers; Michael Hughes and wife Laura of Lutherville and Thomas Hughes, III and wife Vina of Catonsville; and a sister, Mary Lee Kroneberger of Cockeysville. The family received friends on both May 3 and 4, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy where a Christian wake service was held on May 4. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, MD 21771. *****May 13, 2004***** John P. Ford John Patrick Ford Jr., 37, of Frederick, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at his residence. He was the husband of Tammy Abel Ford. Born Aug. 9, 1966, in Milwaukee, Wis., he was the son of Carol Ale Ford of Germantown and John Patrick Ford of Gaithersburg. He was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church of Frederick. He loved playing softball and had coached the church softball league. He especially loved spending time with his daughters. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters Danielle Nichole and Morgan Taylor Ford, both at home; two brothers, Anthony C. Ford and wife Theresa, and Lance S. Ford and wife Cynthia, all of Frederick; mother-in- law, Mary Fontenot of Tennessee; nieces and nephews Shane, Ashley, Joshua and Mackenzie Ford; and numerous aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held on May 12 at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church of Frederick with the Rev. Michael W. Mangold officiating. Interment is in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Bernard J. Kuhn Jr. Bernard Joseph Kuhn Jr., 19, of Mount Airy, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at home after fighting a courageous nine-month battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 11, 1984, in Baltimore, son of Mary Lynn Myers-Kuhn and the late Bernard Joseph Kuhn Sr. Mr. Kuhn had completed his freshman year at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., majoring in engineering. He was a 2002 graduate of Linganore High School, where he was a member of the marching band and played the trumpet. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He performed with Linganore High School's band in Walt Disney World in 2002 and also traveled with the band on a Caribbean cruise in spring 2000. Mr. Kuhn played baseball for MAYAA basketball for four counties. He worked for at Mount Airy Pharmacy and more recently worked at the Tractor Supply Company in Mount Airy. He was a member of the Simpson Gardening crew. Mr. Kuhn was a kind person who loved animals and enjoyed tinkering with his Bronco dirt bikes, his Dodge truck and John Deere tractors. He had a long scouting career from Tiger Cubs and Cub Scouts with Pack 460 to Boy Scouts with Troop 460. He participated in two Boy Scouts of America High Adventure experiences at Philmont Scout Rank in New Mexico and the Eli Sommers Canoe Base in Minnesota. Mr. Kuhn earned his Eagle Scout award in August 2002 after completing a butterfly garden in Wildwood Park, Mount Airy. He also received the Arrow of Light award in 1995. Aside from his mother, he is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial services will take place at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 23, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 Main St., Mt. Airy. Funeral arrangements by Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, Winfield. Russell W. Ray Russell W. Ray, 81, of Mount Airy, died on Sunday, May 9, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Baltimore. He was the husband of Frances Sherman Ray for 49 years. Born on July 11, 1922, in Anne Arundel County, he was the son of Roland R. and Bessie L. Gable Ray. He was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School. Mr. Ray was an industrial engineer for Westinghouse Corporation, retiring in the early 1980s after 22 years of service. After retirement "Russ" opened a metal molding business, R&T Dip Bracing Company in Mount Airy located in what is now Castle Center. Mr. Ray was also a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army Field Artillery Corps. He was a life member of the Mount Airy Lions Club. During his 34 years as a Lion he served on many committees and held most of its offices, including president. He was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Mount Airy and a former member of Wesley Grove United Methodist Church in Harmans. He was a dedicated husband and father, an avid Baltimore Orioles fan, but most of all enjoyed being outdoors working on his 18-acre farm. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Dottie Ray Davis Clark, of Ocean Pines, Ginger Ray Mason and husband John and Terry Ray Sipes and husband Ken, all of Mount Airy, and Rusty Ray and wife Karen of The Netherlands; nine grandchildren: Scott Davis and wife Pam of Lothian, Dana Davis Hamilton of Pasadena, Jeremy Mason and wife Shane of Mount Airy, Joshua Mason and wife Harmony of New Market, Jeff Mason, Jenna Sipes and Ryan Sipes, all of Mount Airy, Adam Ray and Alex Ray of The Netherlands; and six great-grandchildren. LaRoi Christine Lynn LaRoi, 17, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at University Maryland Medical Center of injuries she sustained in an automobile accident, near her home. She was born May 9, 1987, in Columbia, Maryland, a daughter of Michael S. and Sheryln Swanson LaRoi of Mount Airy. Christine was a junior at Urbana High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Thespian Drama Club. She recently participated in the play "Swing." Christine was an avid dancer and belonged to many dance studios, most recently the 24/7 Dance Studio. Surviving besides her parents are a younger sister, Michelle LaRoi, at home, paternal grandparents Larry and Jan LaRoi of Libertyville, Illinois, and maternal grandfather Gary Swanson of Libertyville. Christine is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Helen Swanson. Moffitt Evan Thomas Moffitt, 12, of Taylorsville, died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. He was born Feb. 11, 1992, in Gettysburg, Pa., the loving son of Bill and Jamie Moffitt. He was an honor student at New Windsor Middle School; he played the drums in the school band. He was a member of Manchester Baptist Church. He was a five- year member of the Cub Scouts Pack 733. He played soccer and baseball for Winfield Recreation. He enjoyed roller-skating at the Magic Elm in Hanover. He loved to go to the beach, and he just learned how to snow board. Evan was the loving grandson of Floyd and Joan Strock of McSherrystown, Pa., and Bill and Sue Moffitt of Westminster; nephew of Vicky and Don Patton of Taylorsville, Sam and Lisa Thoman of Hanover, Pa., Sandy Orendorff and Kelly Strock, both of McSherrystown, Pa., and Drake Strock of Austin, Texas. Hardesty Mr. Donald H. Hardesty, 80, of Mount Airy, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, He was the husband of Jane S. Eaton Hardesty, his wife of 58 years. Born on June 23, 1923, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Dietz Hardesty. He was an engineer with Westinghouse retiring in 1988 after 43 years service, Mr. Hardesty served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II and was a member of American Legion Gold Star, Mt Airy. He enjoyed woodcarving, camping, doing crossword puzzles and was a member of the Western Howard County Senior Center. Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Donna Hafner and husband Calvin of Taneytown, Bruce Hardesty and wife Dolly of Taylorsville, Terry Burch and husband Michael of Nashville, Tenn., Eileen Wilderman and husband Dean of Sykesville and Patricia Mohorovic and husband Dennis of Dundalk; nine grandchildren, Lindsay Hafner, Michael and Tom Hardesty, Matthew, Daniel, Leach and Sarah Jane Burch, Amber and Dennis Mohorovic; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Burch. May, 63, of Frederick, died May 16, 2004, at Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy. He was the husband of Louise Fields May. Born Aug. 4, 1940, in East Orange, N.J., he was the son of the late John and Anna Garrabrant May. The Rev. May was the pastor of Brunswick First Church of God, retiring in 2002 after eight years service. He served as chaplain at Frederick Memorial Hospital, for the Frederick City Police and was a former chaplain for the Frederick Union Rescue Mission. He was superintendent of Westminster Union Rescue Mission. The Rev. May also ran the Alcohol Victorious Program at the Frederick Detention Center, and was past president of CARA, as well as staffing a call-in prayer line on 88.1 FM. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Jamie May of Frederick, are a daughter, Jessica May Fogle of Frederick; a son, Douglas J. May of Frederick; a brother, Ralph May and wife Betty of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and three nephews. A memorial service will be announced later. Interment will be private. Neal Margaret Lillian Neal, 84, died May 17, 2004, at Glade Valley Nursing Home in Walkersville. She was the wife of the late David Sherman Neal, who died in 1982. Born Feb. 7, 1920, in Bedford County, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Marvin Warren and Julia Isabella (Widener) Spriggs. Originally from Abingdon, Va., the family moved to Gaithersburg in 1966. Mrs. Neal is survived by a daughter, Sue Able of Frederick; a son, Ronald Neal and his wife Carolyn of Mt. Airy; four sisters, Etta Neal of Abingdon, Va., and Marie Brown, Zona Stewart and Bertha Royston, all of Texas; two brothers, Marvin Spriggs Jr. of Essex and Kenneth Spriggs of North Carolina; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Parris, and a brother, Jack Spriggs. Services and interment were held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Va., on Monday. Margaret E. Snyder Margaret Elizabeth Snyder, 82, of Timonium, and formerly of Laytonsville, died of heart failure May 20, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Towson. Born April 6, 1922, on a farm in Laytonsville, she was a daughter of the late Russell Lansdale and Mary C. Allnutt Snyder. Miss Snyder graduated from Gaithersburg High School and worked with the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation for 37 years, until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Society of Former FBI Women, and her hobbies including painting and attending the theater. Survivors include four sisters, Lucille Beard of Hagerstown, Dorothy Lambdin of Thurmont, Hattie Bingham of Fairfax, Va., and Louise Phillips of Washington, D.C.; a brother, William R. Snyder of Timonium; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation and a funeral service were held Wednesday at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home P.A., 1201 N. Market St., Frederick. The Rev. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, P.A., Frederick. John 'Pat' Norris John "Pat" Patrick Norris, 85, of Silver Spring, died of cancer at his home on Saturday, May 22, 2004. The son of the late John Andrew and Hanna Jane Leahy Norris, he was born Oct. 1, 1918 in Montrose, Md. Mr. Norris graduated from Richard Montgomery High school in Rockville in 1937 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1938, serving four years. In 1944, he was recalled to active duty, joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the PT boats in the Philippines. After WWII, Mr. Norris went to work at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. and then joined the Sheet Metal Workers, Local 100. He was a member for 57 years. Following a 30-year career as a sheet metal mechanic and foreman, he retired from Stromberg Sheet Metal Works in 1983. A gifted craftsman, Mr. Norris put his skills to use helping family with home projects. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with family and woodworking. He was a devoted husband to wife Edith M. Shipe Norris for 65 years and a loving father to three children, Patrick D. Norris and wife Sandra of Ijamsville, Pamela Norris Lee and husband Donald of Davidsonville, and Patricia Ann Davidson and husband William of Gambrills. He had five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Nellie Mae Calantonio, and Louise Ann Dumbrowski, both of Rockville, and one brother, Maurice M. Norris of Colorado. He was the brother of the late Andrew L. Norris, Douglas J. Norris and Mary M. Moran. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville. Mark D. Schultheis Sr. Mark Douglas Schultheis Sr., 50, of Manchester, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore. Born June 9, 1953 in Maryland, he was the son of the late John H. and Evelyn Wagner Schultheis. He was the husband of Suzanne Schultheis of Manchester. He had been employed with Mainline Automotive in Baltimore for many years. Surviving in addition to his wife are son Mark Douglas Schultheis Jr. of Manchester, daughter Anne Marie Schultheis of Manchester, mother-in-law and father-in-law Eugene and Ann Green of Randallstown and numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Watkins 73, of Monrovia and formerly of Cedar Grove, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Northampton Manor Health Care Center in Frederick. He was the husband of Ardean Mullinix Watkins. They would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary June 26. Born May 10, 1931 in Cedar Grove, he was a son of the late Granville W. and Dorothy Louise Hawkins Watkins. Mr. Watkins was a 1950 graduate of Damascus High School. He was a dairy farmer and since retirement he had become a part time realtor. He was a member of the Maryland Virginia Milk Producers Association, Past member of the Damascus and New Market Lions Club, a member of AARP, former member of Salem United Methodist Church in Kemptown. He enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, jigsaw puzzles and eating out. He also received much pleasure from Bible classes, senior citizens activities, family and church dinners. Surviving besides his wife are two sisters: Agnes Moxley and her husband Robert R. Moxley of Damascus and Linda Andrews and her husband Dr. Edward Andrews of Rockville; sisters-in-law Linda Beale, Shirley Hartman, and Vada Mullinix of Mount Airy and Jeannie Mullinix of Damascus; brothers-in-law Bruce Beale and Ellis Mullinix of Mount Airy and Harold Mullinix of Damascus, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Watkins is preceded in death by Godson Michael Ryan Beale, brother-in-law Harvey Hartman, and nephews Jerry Wayne Hartman & Larry Kevin Hartman.
