Bentz Jr. Joseph Francis Bentz Jr., 52, of Thurmont died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at his residence. Born Jan. 12, 1952 in Frederick, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Mary Virginia Holland Bentz Sr. Mr. Bentz was born and raised in the Graceham and Creagerstown area. He worked 25 years in the shipping and receiving department at the former Worthington Pump, now Flow Serv, of Taneytown. Survivors include two children, Deborah Bisenieks and husband Jimmy of Thurmont, and Joseph F. Bentz III of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Allison Weddle of Thurmont; uncle James L. Bentz of Thurmont; several cousins, including Kenny Marshall of Emmitsburg and Richard Bentz of Frederick. Special friends Jim and Louise Bentz of Thurmont and Patricia Fogle of Frederick will also remember him. Funeral services were held July 24 at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., Thurmont, with the Rev. Ruth Ann Ward of Weller United Methodist Church officiating. Interment is in Weller's Cemetery, Thurmont. The family requests that memorial donations be made in memory of Mr. Bentz to the Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Claggett A. Jones Claggett A. Jones, 79, of Frederick, formerly of Montgomery County, died on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 10, 1924, he was a son of the late Claggett T. and Eleanor Nolte Jones. He was the husband of Mrs. Jean Nalley Jones for 56 years. He attended public school in the District of Columbia and earned his bachelor of arts degree in government and business administration from the George Washington University in 1952. Mr. Jones served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII and earned numerous ribbons and awards. He was employed in marketing and management for several agencies, including the Naval Gun Factory, IBM, the Burroughs Corporation and CEIR until 1972. At that time, he became employed by the Department of Commerce, Bureau of Census, where he served as manager of systems software division, managing all operations systems and general purpose software and training there until his retirement in 1983. He moved to the Worman's Mill subdivision in Frederick after retirement and became an advocate for his community, and acquired the nickname "Frederick city watchdog." He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of Frederick and St. John's Lutheran Church in Myersville. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Kathy L. Chandler and her husband, Dale, of Myersville; and Kristie Jones-Dunkley and her husband, James, of Middletown; one son, Michael F. Jones and his wife, Laura, of Florida; four grandchildren, Ryan and Kelly Chandler and Hannah and Ethan Jones; and a brother, Robert Jones and his wife, Betty, of Ocean City, Md. Funeral services were held Wednesday from St. John's Lutheran Church, Myersville, with the Rev. David H. Howell, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Arrangements by Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick. Barry G. Kelson Barry George Kelson, 61, of Frederick died unexpectedly at his home on July 20, 2004. Born Nov. 2, 1942, in Somerville, Mass., he was the son of George W. and Beryl Kelson. Mr. Kelson graduated from Boston University with a bachelor's degree and began his career as a writer. He lived in the Washington Metropolitan area for the last 30 years. At the time of his death, he had a manuscript pending publication. He was an avid Red Sox fan, and collected everything from coins to baseball cards. Mr. Kelson is survived by three children, Kelly Ward and her husband, Jay, of Smithsburg, Andrew Kelson of Germantown, and Kristin Kelson of Everett, Mass.; a sister, Merideth Kelson of Mason, N.H.; grandchildren Noah Kelson of Everett, and Richard and Jennifer Ward of Smithsburg. A close friend, Ron Jester of West Virginia, will also remember him. A memorial service was held Monday, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. Inurnment will be private. Arrangements by Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody P.A. in Frederick. Floyd C. Marten Floyd Carl Marten, 59, of Monrovia, died on Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his residence. Born on Dec. 7, 1944, in Bowler, Wisc., he was the son of the late Lester Paul and Eva Williams Marten. He was the husband of Mavis D. Yonker Marten for 39 years. He was a CPA and also president and owner of Eastern Glass Lined Storage, Inc, in Westminster. Mr. Marten was a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited and founder of Heart of Maryland Bow Hunters Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children: Vikki Stansberry and husband Greg, Jody Czapp and husband John, Amy Richardson and husband Greg, all of Hanover, Pa., and Jeffrey Marten and wife Natoshia of Frederick; 12 grandchildren; two sisters: Janet Johnson and husband Douglas of Bowler, Wisc., and Marcia Felts and husband Bruce of Shawano, Wisc.; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Marten of Plover, Wisc. Mr. Marten was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Marten. Services were held Monday, July 26, at Stauffer Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Angel Derek Matthew Angel, 21, of Middletown and formerly of Germantown, died unexpectedly July 31, 2004. Born Oct. 1, 1982, in Johnson City, Tenn., he was the son of Jonathan M. Angel of Middletown and the late Nina Shandor Angel. He was the stepson of Lindy H. Angel. Mr. Angel grew up in the Germantown area. He graduated from Walkersville High School in 2001 and was attending Penn State University, where he was a communications major. He interned at the Community Foundation of Frederick County this summer. Survivors in addition to his father and stepmother include two grandfathers, Paul H. Angel of Olney and Michael Shandor of Ashton. Services were held Saturday. Arrangements were handled by Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, Frederick. Andrew D. Gorczyca Andrew D. Gorczyca, 40, of Rockville, died on Thursday, Aug. 5, at his residence. Born on Aug. 14, 1963, in Bethesda, he was the son of Casimir A., Sr. and Daisy L. Keck Gorczyca of Woodsboro. Mr. Gorczyca was a courier for a delivery company in the Rockville area. He was a talented musician and played several instruments, especially the guitar. He loved animals and the outdoors, camping and cooking out on the grill. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are five brothers and sisters: Annette Kessler and husband Jeffrey of Damascus, Casimir "Tony" Gorczyca Jr., of Wheaton, Chris G. Gorczyca of Seattle, Wash., Kasha Bomysoad and husband Bob of Union Bridge and Michele Reese and husband Eric of Union Bridge; his cat, Isis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many cherished friends. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Stauffer Funeral Home, Walkersville, with the Rev. Tom Fralin officiating. Interment is private. Hill Evelyn Louise Hill, 56, of Frederick died Aug. 7, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born Sept. 23, 1947, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Elmer Hockman of Florida and the late Helen L. Roberts. She was the wife of Wayne C. Hill for 36 years. Survivors, in addition to her husband and father, include three sons, Brady Hill and wife Shira of Germantown, Brent Hill and Bryan Hill, both of Frederick; a brother, John Hockman and wife Joyce; a sister, Helen Aument and husband Martin; and one granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Spring Ridge Senior Apartment Community Center, 6351 Spring Ridge Parkway, Frederick. Watkins *****Aug. 24, 2004***** Jerry S. Lohr Jerry Specht Lohr, 64, of Frederick, died on Sunday, Aug. 15, at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Carlene L. Humphries Lohr for 39 years. Born on Sept. 5, 1939, in Stoystown, Pa., he was the son of the late Harold and Lucilla Specht Lohr. Mr. Lohr was a plant operations engineer at Frederick Memorial Hospital, retiring in April after 15 years of service. Prior to that he was a heavy equipment operator for Local 77 in Washington, D.C., for 15 years and worked four years at Southern States Petroleum in Frederick. He was a member of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick. Mr. Lohr was a co-founder of the Girls Fast Pitch Softball League in Lewistown and a past president of the Frederick County Girls Fast Pitch Softball League. He was an avid camper, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a big football fan but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Jill Isanogle of Frederick, Gerri McNamara and husband Joe of Thurmont and Kim Cover and husband Mike of Thurmont; four grandchildren, Bradley McNamara, Danielle Isanogle, Karah McNamara and Michael Cover Jr.; two sisters, Connie Gerwatowski of Somerset, Pa., and Carol Clark and husband Jerry of Grantsville, Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews. Thomas S. Riddle Thomas Stewart Riddle, 80, of New Windsor died on Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at his residence. He was the husband of Lila Scott Riddle for 57 years. Born on June 27, 1924, in Frankfort, Ky., he was the son of the late Jessie and Susan Redding Riddle. He was a lifelong electrician. Mr. Riddle served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an Electrician's Mate First Class and was a member the VFW in Cabin John. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for a number of years for the Electrical Local in Washington and in 1977 went to work for the U.S. government, retiring earlier this year. Mr. Riddle loved dogs and enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his Yorkies, in his younger years he raised champion Akitas. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children Thomas S. "Stu" Riddle II and wife Linda of Chambersburg, Pa., Phillip A. Riddle and wife Cathy of New Windsor and Pamela S. Rej and husband Paul of Rocky Ridge; seven grandchildren, Stewart Riddle III, Dawn Riddle, Sarah Rej, Joseph Rej, Susie Riddle, Thomas Rej and Ben Riddle; and a brother, Bradley Riddle and wife Maile of Shelbyville, Tenn. Mr. Riddle was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey S. Riddle. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy, with his son, the Rev. Stewart Riddle II, officiating. Interment, with military honors, will take place in Parklawn Memorial Park, Rockville. *****Aug. 28-29, 2004***** Lowell E. Campbell Lowell Eugene Campbell, 84, of Frederick, died on Saturday, Aug. 21, at Homewood at Crumland Farms, Frederick. He was the husband of Deborah Kreitler Campbell for 56 years. Born on June 13, 1920, in Preble County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Walter Guy and Grace Williams Campbell. He was a 1938 graduate of Lanier High School and attended Ohio State University before his military service. After graduating from the Army Air Force technical school at Yale University he served in the Army Air Force during WWII as an airway communications officer in India and Burma. After his military service, he received degrees in engineering and agriculture at Ohio State University. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1947 to 1985 at Beltsville, and authored or co-authored more than 50 technical publications including book or handbook chapters concerning forage harvesting, dairy equipment, farm lighting, standby electric generators, greenhouse and plant lighting and environmental requirements for plant growth. Mr. Campbell was a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, the American Society of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Washington Society of Engineers and the Washington Academy of Science, serving on numerous technical committees of these organizations. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, David Campbell and wife Paula of Ellicott City, Jane Brockman of Brunswick, Ga., and Ellen Campbell of Baltimore; six grandchildren, and a sister, Miriam Campbell Lucas of Columbus, Ohio. A memorial service was held Wednesday at Homewood at Crumland Farms with the Rev. Dr. Gerrald C. Hanberry of Glade United Church of Christ, Walkersville officiating. Interment is private. Malone Nickolas Jacob Malone, infant son of Steven L. and Mary Jane Malone of Frederick, died Aug. 17, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Survivors in addition to his parents include one sister, Katie J. Malone and two brothers, Joseph L. Malone and Leonardo S. Malone, all of Frederick; maternal grandparents Billy and Mabel Hawkins of Gaithersburg; paternal grandparents, Robert and Mae Dimes of Gaithersburg; and numerous aunts and uncles. Gary Nash Gary Nash, 49, of Frederick, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Aug. 21, at his home. He was born on Jan. 13, 1955, in Austin, Texas. He grew up in Potomac and attended Churchill High School. Since leaving school he has worked with tree services and general all-around maintenance. He enjoyed music, cooking, camping, fishing, hunting and the beach. He is survived by his parents, Brice and Ellen French Nash; one sister, DeLaine Niesley and husband Ronald; one brother, Mark Nash and wife Gigi; six nephews, four nieces and many friends. Services will be held at 1 p.m., today, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with the Rev. Tim Simpson officiating. Interment is in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, Va.
