Grimes Mr. Edward Aaron Grimes, 88, of Frederick died Oct. 3, 2004, at his residence at Edenton Retirement Home. Born May 5, 1916 in Travilah, Montgomery County, he was a son of the late Thomas O. and Maude Alsinder West Grimes. Mr. Grimes worked as farmer, truck driver, service station attendant and bartender prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II as a technical sergeant in Chemical Defense on an air base in Chelveston, England. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for the federal government at the National Institutes of Health as a security guard and later as an inventory control supervisor and retired in 1972 after 30 years of service. Survivors include two sons: Brenton and wife Stephanie of Gaithersburg and Wayne and wife Linda of Frederick, two granddaughters, five nieces and nine nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 21611 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville. The Rev. David S. Pollock will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Oak Cemetery, Gaithersburg. Arrangements were made by the Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home, Laytonsville. Lloyd G. Bezold Lloyd Gerard Bezold, 40 of Sykesville, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster. Born April 22, 1964, in Baltimore, he was the son of Louis Irving Bezold Jr. and Dorothy Anne Tomlin Bezold of Sykesville. He had been a bookkeeper with Shoppers Food Market. Funeral services were held Saturday at Church of The Open Door, 550 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster. Interment in Pipe Creek Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville. Blas A. ‘Bob’ Alfaro Blas A. "Bob" Alfaro, 75, of Mount Airy, formerly of Greenbelt, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at his home. He was the husband of Sharon Conroy Alfaro for 40 years. Born Feb. 3, 1929, in New York City, he was the son of the late Blas J. and Ana Josefa Bautista Alfaro. A man of many talents, Mr. Alfaro taught cosmetology for Howard County Public Schools, retiring in 1992 after 17 years. He operated two salons in Laurel, beauty schools in both Laurel and Puerto Rico. He was an author, professional photographer, real estate investor and all around entrepreneur. Mr. Alfaro served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army in Korea and in the Naval Air Reserves. He was a member of Gold Star American Legion Post 191 and V.F.W. Post 10076, both in Mount Airy. Lovingly known to many as "Papi," he enjoyed social gatherings, Latin music and cooking for family and friends. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Robert Alfaro and his wife, Marci,e of Crosby, Texas, and James Woodworth and his wife, Camile, of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Theresa Daytner and husband Allen of Mount Airy and Regina Miller and husband Greg of Germantown; 11 grandchildren, Kelsey Woodworth, Jacqueline Woodworth, Alysha Daytner, Katherine Engel, Michelle Daytner, Candice Daytner, Logan Daytner, Matthew Daytner, Callie Miller, Julia Miller and Benjamin Miller; and a sister, Isabel Portillo and husband Salvatore of Long Island, N.Y. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Mount Airy Interment will be private. Bozzell Patricia Ann Bozzell, 59, of Braddock Heights, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born July 16, 1945 in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Elizabeth Dixon. She had been a homemaker for most of her life. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Renee Bozzell of Frederick and Duane and Connie Bozzell of New Windsor; brother Gerald Dixon of Woodbine; grandchildren Dennis Ryan Bozzell, Jessica Baez, Hope Gouge, Faith Bozzell, Corine Bozzell and Chad Bozzell and great-grandchildren Azraiha Bozzell, Brady Allan Gouge and Logan Ryan Bozzell. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today from Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of services today. David A. Hood David Aubrey Hood, 77, of Baltimore, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Manor Care, Baltimore. Born April 14, 1927, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Orman Aubrey Hood and the late Grace Hobbs Hood Standiford. He was the husband of Jeri Hood of Baltimore. He had served in the Navy during WWII. He had been a steelworker for many years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are stepsons Steven Kline, Chance Purcell and Justin Buchanan, all of Baltimore, and granddaughters Alexa Kline, Alena Purcell and Christa Kline. Funeral services were held Saturday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville, with the Rev. Charles Acker officiating. Interment is in Springfield Cemetery, Sykesville. Alice E. Keller Alice Emma Cookson Keller, 77, of Finksburg, died suddenly Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Carroll Hospital Center. She was the wife of the late Herman William "Shorty" Keller. She was born May 12, 1927, in Guilford, Maine, the daughter of the late Charles Earl and late Clara Belle Taylor Cookson. Mrs. Keller was a telephone operator for the District of Columbia Police Department before retiring and becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and quilting. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Linda and Mike Watts of Woodbridge, Va., son and daughter-in-law Raymond and Debbie Keller of Taylorsville, daughter Kathryn J. Keller of Finksburg, daughter and son-in-law Barbara K. and Sam Duvall of Mount Airy; grandchildren Lisa Farley, John Keller, Ray Keller Jr., David Watts, Matthew Watts and Chris Duvall; and great-grandchildren Shawn McCauley, Richard Farley, Robert Farley, Caitlyn Keller and Morgan Watts. Thorne Rodney Wesley Thorne, 52, of Westminster, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at his home. Born May 10, 1952 in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the son of the late Coy Earl and Pauline Harless Thorne. He had been a mechanic with Ottenberg’s Bakery in Eldersburg. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Eric C. and Tommie Thorne of Sykesville and Rodney J. and Lynn Thorne of Westminster, daughter and son-in-law Tina Y. and Chris Farver of Montpelier, Va.; brother Danny E. Thorne of North Carolina, sister Patricia E. Wilhelm of Pennsylvania, and grandchildren Sarah Farver, Christopher Thorne, Morgan Thorne, Kyle Thorne, Cory Farver and Gabrielle Thorne.
