Born Dec. 23, 1917, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Anna A. Dowell Kober. She was the wife of the late Robert Armentrout. She was retired from the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn. She had resided at Spencer Village in Eldersburg. She is survived by son Edward R. Armentrout of Perry Hall; daughters Kathleen D. Held of Miami, Fla., and Joanne Boyce of Randallstown; sisters Virginia of Exter, N.H., and Ann of LaPlata; grandchildren Reid Windesheim, Ruth Sliviak and husband Greg, Laura Higgins, Kevin Armentrout and wife Melissa, and Lawrence and Shawn Held; great-grandchildren Sarah, Melissa, Lauren, Amanda, Lonny, Michael, Alex, Patrick, Eddie and Colin; and dear friend William Reese. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Kober, and grandchildren Darla and William Armentrout. A funeral liturgy was held Dec. 27 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Randallstown. Broening-Casgar Mrs. Patricia L. Broening-Casgar, 40, of Chambersburg, Pa., formerly of Germantown and Frederick County, died Dec. 14, 2004, in a car accident in Radford, Va. Born Nov. 12, 1964, in New York, she was the daughter of LaRue Hamil of Hobe Sound, Fla., and the late Paul Kercher. She was the wife of Adam M. Casgar for two years. Survivors, in addition to her husband and mother, include five children, David P. Broening, Stefan M. Broening, Paul T. Broening, Kristin M. Broening and Cooper M. Casgar; two sisters, Cindy Brereton of Freehold, N.J., and Barbara Lamb of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; and one brother, David Kercher, of Long Island, N.Y. A memorial service was held on Dec. 18 at the family home in Chambersburg. He was born in Taylorsville on April 11, 1909, the son of the late Frank Grimes and the late Elsie Fleming Grimes. He was the husband of Ruth E. Penn Grimes of Baltimore. He was an electrician for Crown, Cork and Seal Co. He was an avid hunter and shooter. He was a member of the Associated Gun Clubs of Baltimore. Survivors besides his wife include two children, Judith A. Whiting of Lutherville and Ronald P. Grimes of Baltimore; two grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Grimes. Graveside service was held Tuesday at Taylorsville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Taylorsville, with the Rev. O.F. "Bud" Kibbe officiating. "Doc" Hall, 82, of Sykesville died of cancer Dec. 27, 2004, at Fairhaven Retirement Community in Sykesville. One of seven children, he was born March 26, 1922, in Barstow. He was the son of the late Charles E. and Emma Hall. He was the husband of Bertha L. Hall of Fort Pierce, Fla. He attended Western Maryland College and Yale University. He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 1947. He served in the Army from 1944 to 1953 and earned the rank of first lieutenant. After his military service, he moved to Sykesville, where he opened his private practice in 1954. He also served as the first chief of staff at Carroll County General Hospital. He retired in 1985 and moved to Fort Pierce, where he remained active and played golf. He enjoyed bird-hunting, gardening and growing tomatoes. He was an avid reader and kept current on advances in medicine. He also enjoyed politics and the history of the American Civil War and World War II. He returned to Sykesville in 2002, where he lived until his death. He was involved in community activities, including establishing and supporting the Pony League Baseball facility and participating in the local American Heart Association and the Carroll County Medical Society. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are former wife Charlotte L. Hall of Westminster; son Michael E. Hall of Sykesville; daughters Terry L. Renehan of Union Bridge, Sandra de Britain of Richardson, Texas, Lillian Aparicio of Jupiter, Fla., and Rebecca Silvestri of Palm Bay, Fla.; brothers Guy H. Hall of Barstow and Robert L. Hall of Dares Beach; sisters Emma M. Steinbach of Beaverton, Ore., and Lucille Malone of Federalsburg; grandchildren Jeffery Lasman, Robert Hale, Stephanie Mooney and Kelly Bauer, all of Florida; Megan Richardson, Ryan Renehan and Shannon Meyers, all of Maryland; Christopher de Britain of Germany and Scott Hall of Texas; and six great-grandchildren. Hill McGrew, 91, of Winfield died Jan. 1, 2005, at Westminster Nursing Home in Westminster. She was the wife of the late Nelson C. McGrew. She was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Chambersburg, Ohio, the daughter of the late William A. Hill and the late Verna J. Wolf Hill. She was a graduate of Warwood High School in Warwood, W.Va. She was a retired office clerk for Bethlehem Steel Co. and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She is survived by son and daughter-in law-Doug and Betty McGrew of Westminster, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were private. Interment is in Lake View Memorial Park. Shaw George Robert "Bobby" Shaw, 66, of Thurmont died Dec. 29, 2004, at College View Nursing Home, Frederick. He was the husband of Betty J. Shaw. Born Jan. 20, 1938, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late George Olive and Georgia Lee Craigie Shaw Hawkins. Mr. Shaw was a retired truck driver for the Montgomery County Liquor Board. He was a volunteer at the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department in 1954; he then went to the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company in 1960 where he was a lifetime member and was responsible for dances for 25 years and auctions for 29 years. He also drove the Mount Airy Fire Prevention Queen to all parades for over nine years. He was past president of the Mount Airy Lions Club where he served in every office except secretary and treasurer. He was a charter member and past vice president of the old Four County Jaycees. He served as vice president of the Carroll County Fire Police and was a member and past vice president of the Damascus Travel Club and a member of the Frederick Moose Lodge 371. He was also a member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, where he belonged to the United Methodist Men and was instrumental in many auctions and was in charge of the country music show to help rebuild the church after a 1974 fire. Mr. Shaw was an avid bowler, dancer and loved country music. Surviving in addition to his wife is daughter Noraleee Gochenour of Smithsburg; son Gerald Shaw of Mount Airy; grandchildren Melanie Gochenour and Karleigh Hubble; stepchildren Earl W. Staley Jr. and wife Candi of Frederick and Kevin B. Staley and wife Kristin of Germantown; step-grandchildren Kayla and Kristopher Staley; step-great-granddaughter Kayleigh Shuff; stepsister Alice M. Fritz and husband Charles of Frederick; and stepbrother Leroy Hawkins of Kissimme, Fla. He will also be remembered by special friends Dana Ferree and son Trevor of Mount Airy and Kaycee Weddle. Zeigler, 89, died Dec. 14, 2004, at her home while being attended to by her family. She was born in Lewisdale, and received her education at the Purdum Schoolhouse, now known as Pleasant Grove Christian Community Church. Allie was a homemaker and loved children. She was the oldest member of the Church of the Ladies Auxiliary. Allie was preceded in death by her mother and father, William H. Dorsey and Evie M. Dorsey-Hackey, stepfather Frank Hackey, husband Charles T. (Joe) Zeigler, sister Frances Randolph and brother Ernest Hackey and daughter Nellie Zeigler. She is survived by her children, Charles of Frederick; William of Savannah, Ga.; Ann Mae of Gaithersburg; Evelyn L. Benton Evelyn Ruth Benton, 81, of West Kittanning, Pa., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at her home. She was born July 16, 1923 in Salisbury, Pa., to Victor Eugene and Grace (Enos) Beachy. She was a registered nurse, employed by Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, the former Wesley Manor, and Dr. Robbins. She was an Army Cadet Nurse, Volunteer for American Red Cross and a member of Army Officer's Wives Club. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church. After retirement she enjoyed golfing, gardening and reading. She was a graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkinsburg, Pa. Survivors include two sons, Christian Y. Benton and his wife, Alana, of Norcross, Ga., and Lance B. Benton and his wife, Evelyn (Dunmire) of DuBois, Pa.; two daughters, Susan B. Benton of Washington, D.C., and Amy B. Benton and her husband, Tom Chase, of Frederick; seven grandchildren, Nathan Benton, Gretchen Benton Meyers, Joshua Benton, Peter Benton Sullivan, Hana, Skyler and Chloe Lewis; four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Kayla, Laurel and Hunter Benton; two sisters, Dixie Otto of Springs, Pa., and Ruby John of West Kittanning, Pa. McKean St., Kittanning, PA 16201 Ann Paxton Brown Mrs. Ann Paxton Brown, 78, of Mount Airy died Jan. 5, 2005, at the Lorien Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Winfred W. Brown, who died in 1985. She was born on May 11, 1926, in Dover, Del., a daughter of the late Edward T. and Evelyn Badger Paxton. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C., and attended the University of Missouri. She was a retired program manager for the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. She was a past president of the Montgomery County Historical Society and a past president of the Maryland Genealogical Society. Surviving her is one daughter, Verna Hines, and her husband Denny of Monrovia; two grandsons, Ryan Hines and wife Carrie, and Jeff Hines and friend Kristina Dodson; two great-granddaughters, Avery and Macy Hines; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Brown. A memorial service was held on Saturday at the Mountain View United Methodist Church in Damascus, with the Rev. Beth Leger officiating. Eshenbaugh, 80, of Gaithersburg died suddenly of unknown causes on Jan. 7, 2005, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. Born June 25, 1924, in Neville Island, Pa., he was the son of the late Edmund E. and Maude Eshenbaugh. He was the husband of Mary J. Eshenbaugh for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 66th Division. He was a squad leader for Rifle Division 745. He fought in battles and campaigns in the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska and in northern France. He was awarded two bronze medals, a victory medal and a good conduct medal. He worked as a landscaper for Gustin Gardens and landscaped many national monuments, including the White House and the National Cathedral, and local malls and highways. He was nicknamed the "Mayor of Tulip Drive." Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Janeen Miller and husband, Rick, of Gaithersburg, Vicki Way and husband, Rick, of Monrovia, and Laurel Walsh of Mount Airy; one brother, Donald A. Eshenbaugh of Sewickeley, Pa.; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters. Interment with full military honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery in February. Pearre Lowery, 61, of Woodbine died Jan. 7, 2005, at Carroll Hospital Center after an extended illness. She was born April 18, 1943, in Frederick, the daughter of Emily E. Shoemaker Pearre and the late James A. Pearre. She was a lifetime member of Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. Surviving her in addition to her mother are brother and sister-in-law Ron and Terri Pearre of Hanover; former sister-in-law Tammy Pearre of Westminster; three nieces, Amy Henderson of Johnson City, Tenn., Amanda Pearre of Hanover, Pa., and Tessa Pearre of Westminster; one nephew, Ryan Pearre of Westminster; one great- niece, Kaitlyn Schisler of Littlestown, Pa.; and two great-nephews, Steven Henderson of Johnson City, Tenn., and Collin Nicolazzo of Hanover, Pa. Tinnell, 77, of Sykesville died Jan. 10, 2005, at her home. Born Nov. 13, 1929, in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Ethel Buxton Mullinix. She was the wife of Wilmer L. Tinnell of Sykesville. She was retired from Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, where she had worked in nursing and housekeeping. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, crochet and collecting records. Surviving in addition to her husband are sons Clifton J. Meininger of Sykesville and Harvey Meininger of Westminster; daughters Helen Kidd of Sykesville, Laura Eyler of Westminster and Winona Barnes of Sykesville; brothers Murray Mullinix and Eugene Mullinix both of Mount Airy and Charles Mullinix of Germantown; and sister Georgia Dove of Woodbine. Germon Sr., 84, of Mount Airy died on Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville. Born Aug. 27, 1920, in Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late William S. and Elsie Phoebus Germon. He was the husband of Audrey L. Germon, his wife of 62 years. Niles was a graduate of Gaithersburg High School, a World War II veteran and a member of the Gaithersburg Lions Club for 53 years, as well as a lifetime member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg. He had retired from the C&P Telephone Company after 40 years of service. Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Joseph N. (Jay) Germon and wife Lynn of Virginia, Terry L. Germon and wife Holly of Virginia, and Lisa M. Baker and husband Brian of Mount Airy; sister Juanita Bohrer of Gaithersburg; seven grandchildren, Jalyn Ickes, Meredith DeJesus, Corrie Bain, Lucas and Brandon Germon, Brittany and Collin Baker; and eight great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Abby, Ellie, Elijah, Gabrella, Nicholas, Madeline and Ester. Long, 57, of Frederick died on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at his residence. He was the husband of Linda M. Pearcy Long for 26 years. Born on June 28, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Jack M. Long of North Olmsted, Ohio and Vera Henson Kinches of Cleveland, Tenn. He was an optician with Colonial Opticians for the last 18 years, working at the Kentlands office. Mr. Long was a member of Frederick Christian Fellowship Church. He enjoyed listening to music, trips to the mountains; but most of all loved spending time with his family. Surviving, in addition to his wife and parents, are two daughters, Lisa Long of Lewistown and Stephanie Long of Frederick; a granddaughter, Jayda Rose Downs of Lewistown: four brothers and sisters, Lynn Jenkins and husband Randy of Cleveland, Tenn., Ken Kinches of Cleveland, Tenn., Jerry Long and wife Mary of Ohio and Gary Long of Ohio. Nazelrod Nettie L. Nazelrod, 86, of Ellicott City died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, at her home. Born Sept. 15, 1918, in Roxbury (Howard County), she was the daughter of the late William Eldridge Sr. and Josephine Hungerford Harrison. She had been a homemaker for most of her life. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Clarence W. "Butch" and Sara "Sally" Nazelrod and son Michael E. Nazelrod; grandchildren Danielle M. Davis and Ryan H., Chad W., Nicole, Travis and Amber Nazelrod; and great-grandson Baylor W. Davis. She was predeceased by siblings Ludelle Leatherman, Elizabeth Cramblitt, William Harrison Jr. and James Harrison. Gertrude Pennington Gertrude Pennington, 99, of Bramalea, Ontario, formerly of Granite died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at home with her family in Bramalea. She was predeceased by friend and companion Fred Guard and survived by several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1212 West Old Liberty Road, Winfield, from 11:30 a.m., today, until the time of funeral service at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Zimmerman Tucker Mildred E. Zimmerman Tucker, 95, of Marietta, Ga., formerly of Woodlawn died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005. She was born in Woodlawn, where she lived most of her life. She moved to Marietta three years ago. A lifelong Methodist, she attended Emmarts United Methodist Church. She was a member of Woodlawn Chapter 101 O.E.S. Surviving are daughters Mildred E. Tucker and Catherine Tucker DeFrancesco, both of Marietta; son Harvey Ellwood Tucker of Catonsville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
