HAHN, ILL SHORT TIME, DIES AGED 80 Operated For Some Years Leather Business In This City Henry A. Hahn, well-known and highly esteemed citizen, died at his home on East Patrick street, Sunday afternoon at 3.45 o’clock after an illness of eight weeks of general debility, 80 years of age. He was a son of the late Adolph and Caroline Jacobsen Hahn and a lifelong resident of this city. Mr. Hahn was born in Gottingen, Germany, October 26, 1852. Only three years of age when his parents located in this city, Mr. Hahn was reared here and received his education in the public schools. At the age of 16, in 1868, he began to learn the trade of leather finisher at the tan yard of George K. Birely and after remaining at this tannery for a period of thirty-six years, he embarked in the leather business in 1904. During the years he conducted his own establishment he was successful. In 1921 he sold the property to William H. Moore. Politically Mr. Hahn was a Democrat and was also a staunch supporter of the Anti-Saloon League and was formerly one of its active adherents and workers. He was at one time treasurer of the league’s organization in this county. In 1907 he was elected a member of the Board of Aldermen. He was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran church and served as deacon and elder. He taught a class in the Sunday school for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Independent Hose Company, No. 1, member of the board of directors of Mt. Olivet cemetery Company and a director of the Fidelity Building and Loan Association. Mr. Hahn married Miss Anna Mary Zimmerman, January 13, 1875, who died a year and five months ago. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Sadie C. Hahn and Miss Bessie V. Hahn, at home. Two sisters, Miss Anna C. Hahn and Mrs. Clara C. Blackston, this city, and one brother, William A. Hahn, near the city, also survive. The funeral will take place from his late home, 211 East Patrick street Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock. Interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Harry E. Carty, funeral director.
