Absalom Hughes, aged about 72 years, died at the United States 
Hotel, corner of All Saints and Market streets, yesterday 
afternoon, of pneumonia.  The deceased was a well-known character
in this vicinity, and has seen a good portion of the ups and downs 
of life.  He was a constable of this district about twelve years 
ago, and was an applicant for the same position at this session 
of the board.
