C. , 48th N. C. Troops, aged 18 years. After the battle his name was not to be found among the killed and wounded, nor was he with his company. In this state of awful suspense and anxiety his widowed mother, who had lost a noble son in the Malvern Hill Battle just four months previous, remained till the last of October, when she learned by a letter from MISS FANNIE V. ELBERT that her son was wounded and in the hospital at Frederick, Md. and doing very well. A second letter, written Dec. 1st, announced his death "away from home [says MISS ELBERT] but not among strangers; for his extreme youth rendered him an object of interest to every one, and he made many warm friends who mingle their tear with yours [his mother's] over his early death. He was buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, a beautiful public burying ground, where I prommise you his grave shall not be forgotten by a portion at least, of the ladies of Frederick." -- Fay.
