Steiner was talking to one of the clerks at the City Hotel, he was taken with an attack of vertigo and in falling struck his head on the edge of the marble slab at the clerks counter, inflicting a terrible gash. He was taken into the reading room and from thence to an apartment in the Hotel where he died at about 10:15 o’clock. Thedeceased was born in Springfield Ohio, and moved to Taneytown this county, in about the year 1877, when he married the daughter of Squire Haugh of that place and move to this city, about two years later. He is the son of Rev. Jesse Steiner, former pastor of the Glade (Reformed) Church, but at present stationed somewhere in the West, and a brother of Mrs. D. M. Scholl, of this city. He was an active member of the United Fire Company, and his here was that of General Agent, of the Frederick City Mutual Aid Association, which position he filled to the entire satisfaction of the company. As near as can be ascertained he was at the time of his death about 35 years old, and leaves a wife and three children to mourn his early demise. The body will be taken to Taneytown today for burial. Coroner Wallace was prepared to hold an inquest but after hearing the evidence of eye witnesses did not think it was necessary to act.
