DAVIDS CHURCH - Death of Mr. Edwin Samuel Stephens Mr. Edwin Samuel Stephens, well known resident of the Powell's Fort Valley, died at his home near St. David's Church on Friday, Sept. 28, 1928, aged 74 years, four months and 18 days. Mr. Stephens was born in Maryland, May 10, 1854, and when a young man moved to the Fort Valley where he has since resided. He was twice married, his first wife, who before marriage was Miss O'Neal, died many years ago. His second wife Mrs. Julia Sibert Stephens died several years ago. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Minnie James of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Bessie Williams of Winchester, VA; and Mrs. Edna Sonner of Strasburg, VA; three sons: Rev. J.S. Stephens of Wakeman's Grove, VA; Mr. Charles E. Stephens of Edith Furnice, Shenandoah Co., VA; Mr. Dabney Thomas Stephens; and Herbert Lee Stephens at home. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. L.J.S. Carpenter at Zion Church, Saturday afternoon with intermet in the Sibert family grave yard. For many years Mr. Stephens had been a member of the Lutheran Church. Pallbearers were: Messrs. E.L. Clem; T.A. Crabill; A.M. McClanahan; A.R. Rinker; S.B. Sibert; and J.M. Rinker. Mr. V.L. Dellinger of Mt. Jackson was undertaker. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Stephens and Mr. Tressel Sibert of Charles Town, WV; Rev. J.S. Stephens; Mrs. Stephens and family of Wakeman's Gove; Mrs. Minnie James of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Bessie Willams of Winchester, VA; and Mrs. Edna Sonner of Strasburg, VA, were called here by the death of Mr. E.S. Stephens. ------------------------- NOTES: Edwin Samuel Stephens (son of Nathaniel & Elizabeth E. (Thomas) Stephens and grandson of Samuel and Nancy (Lucas) Stephens) was born 10 May 1854 in New Market, Frederick Co., MD, and died 28 Sep 1928 in Powell's Fort Valley, Shenandoah County, VA. He married (1) Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth O'Neal 19 Feb 1880 in Shenandoah County, VA, daughter of Timothy O'Neal and Mary Neff- Funkhouser. She was born Abt. 1857 in Frederick County, VA, and died 1894 in Powells Fort Valley, Shenandoah County, VA. He married (2) Julia Lydia Theodora Rebecca Sibert 17 Mar 1895 in Shenandoah County, VA, daughter of William Sibert and Rebecca Clem. She was born 19 Jan 1866 in Seven Fountains, Shenandoah County, VA, and died 13 Mar 1926 in St. Davids Church, Fort Valley, Shenandoah County, VA.
