Mrs. Welty had been ill since last August and due to her advanced age was unable to combat the complication of diseases. Mrs. Welty was born in Virginia on March 4, 1841, and had she lived until her next birthday would have been 83 years old. She moved to Edina, Mo., when very young and resided there until she was married. A few months after her marriage she and her husband moved to Emmitsburg where she made her home up to the time of her death. The home place was near Emmitsburg, where her daughter, Mrs. Martin Spalding, now lives. During her illness she had the constant attention of her sister, Mrs. Emile Buehner, of New York, who came to Emmitsburg as soon as she received word that Mrs. Welty's condition was serious. Mrs. Welty is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Eugene Spalding, Mrs. Charles Ecenrode, Littlestown, Pa.; Mrs. Harry Rowe, Emmitsburg; Mrs. Walter Dorsey, Thurmont, and Mrs. Martin Spalding, near Emmitsburg; and one son, William Welty, St. Anthony's. She leaves two sisters: Mrs. Emile Buehner and Miss Elizabeth Reid, of New York, and one brother, John Reid, of St. Louis. Thirty-eight grand-children and twenty- four great grandchildren also survive. The funeral took place with a requiem mass at St. Joseph's Catholic church, with Rev. Clarence E. Wheeler, of Washington, a newphew of Mrs. Welty's, officiating. Six of her grandchildren acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in Mt. St. Mary's cemetery.
