I, Charles Wood, Senr., of Frederick County in the State of Maryland, Farmer, being sick and weak in body but of sound disposing mind, memory , and understanding and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life; and that it is appointed for all men once to die. And that consequently, it is necessary to settle of my worldly affairs whilst I am in a capacity and proper frame of mind to do the same, do make and ordain the following my last will and testament, that is to say, IMPRIMES, it is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid by my Executor out of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Sarah Wood the privilege of my dwelling house on plantation, with my son John Wood, hereafter mentioned during her natural life and the ??? of all my lands and also one Negro man named Jack, one Negro woman named Henny and one Negro girl named Hannah, and all the rest and residue of my personal estate after payment of debts and funeral charges above mentioned and after payment and deduction of the several bequests and legacies hereafter devised. Item: I give and bequeath unto my eldest daughter Mary Clary one Negro girl named Ruth to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Charles Wood five pounds current money to be paid by my Executors out of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin Wood twenty-five pounds current money to be paid by Executors out of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Lamb, five pounds current money to be paid by my Executors out of my estate. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Basil Wood part of my lands called The Grove beginning at a marked red oak sapling standing on or near John Bright Well^Òs land and running thence South twenty nine degrees west one hundred and thirteen ??? South eighty five degrees east ??? ??? South seven degrees West thirty six perches South ??? two degrees East to strike the outlines of the whole survey so as to include the land ???, at the South East end of the whole tract and now distinguished on the plat of said land by number One to him my said son Basil Wood, his heirs and assigns for ever. Item: I likewise give and bequeath unto my said son Basil Wood and his heirs one Negro boy named Jack and four head of sheep. Item: I give and bequeath to my son Peter Wood and his heirs one Negro girl named Sarah, and one young mare colt, the foal of a mare called Taddy. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Henry Wood part of my Land called The Grove beginning at a bounded ??? on the East side of the spring branch running down from the old dwelling and running thence south twenty degrees West seventy perches to a marked white oak sapling South eighty degrees East thirty two perches to a marked white oak tree South ten degrees west to strike the outlines of the whole ??? in their beginning at the far boundary ??? and running thence north sixty five degrees west eight perches to the marked oak saplings north twenty six degrees east seventy perches to ??? marked ?Gum ?Gribbs South sixty degrees West to strike the outlines of the whole tract and distinguished on the plat by number Two to him my said son Henry Wood, his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I likewise give and bequeath unto my said son Henry Wood and his heirs one Negro boy, named Tom, and one cow and calf. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son John Wood all the ??? of my said lands called The Grove not already ??? or disposed of including my dwelling plantation ??? to my wife as before mentioned, lying and being The Grove wherever it may ??? be the quantity more or less, unto him my said son John Wood, his heirs and assigns forever. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ursla Wood and her heirs one Negro girl called Peg, one best bed and furniture and one cow and calf. And lastly I do constitute and appoint my said loving wife and my son Basil Wood by Executrix and Executor of this my said will, hereby revoking and making void all former and other will or will by me heretofore made, declaring this and no other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed by seal this seventeenth day of April in this year of our Lord God One Thousand seven hundred and eighty seven. Then came Sarah Wood and Basil Wood and made oath that the foregoing instrument of writing is the true and whole will and testament of Charles Wood, late of Frederick County, deceased, that hath come to their hands and profession and that they doth not know of other. Then came Richard Simpson, Jr. And John Hammond, two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing last will and testament of Charles Wood, late of Frederick County, deceased, and made oath that they did see the testator therein named sign and seal this will that they heard him publish, pronounce, and declare the same to be his last will and testament that at the time of his doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of a sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding that they respectively subscribed their names a witnesses to this will in the presence and at the request of he testator and that they did also see Richard Cole, the other subscribing witness sign his name as witness ? in the presence and at the request of the testator, and all in the presence of each other.
