I Sally Simpson of Frederick County and State of Maryland, make and Ordain this my last will and Testament as follows: It is my will that my funeral charges and all my Just Debts be fully Satisfied and said by my Executrix hereinafter named. I hereby bequeath to my dear mother Catherine Simpson her heirs and Assigns forever all the real Estate I now own, or am or may be entitled to, as sole heir of my Father Richard Simpson Junior late of the county aforesaid and also all my Personal Estate of every kind. I hereby nominate and appoint my mother Catherine Simpson aforesaid sole Executrix of this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke all former wills and Testaments made by me and declare this to be my last will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and affix my seal this fourteenth day of September in the year eighteen hundred and eight. Robt Cummings, Abraham Jones, Levi L. Stevenson. Will proved 15 October 1808 by Catherine Simpson, Abraham Jones and Levi L. Stevenson. Jones and Stevenson stated they saw Robert Cummings sign as witness as well. Just as a note, could not find the will for a Richard Simpson Junior, but his father’s will is extant, and the following is a brief abstract: Frederick County, Maryland. Abstract: Will of Richard Simpson. Book GM-3 – pp 292-294 Sick and weak in body, but of sound mind, memory and understanding. ITEM: To four sons, Richard, Joshua, Charles and Reason Simpson all lands in Frederick County, Maryland. To Richard, that land laid down on Plat of Joel Wright as Lot 4. To Joshua, that land laid down on Plat of Joel Wright as Lot 1 and meadow ground of lot 5. To Charles, that land laid down on Plat of Joel Wright as Lot 3. To son Resin [sic] that land laid down on Plat of Joel Wright as Lot 2. To daughter Delilah “all that land of seventy acres” lying in the State of Pennsylvania and Fayette County, “that fell to me by heirship at the Decease of my Brother Gaither Simpson and bought by him of James Mill, Esq.” Also that part of brother Gaither’s personal estate and “one Negro woman named Lat [Pat?] and one Negro girl named Betty and one Negro girl named Hannah. Sons to pay Delilah five pounds annually each ‘for her Support” as long as she remains single. Delilah may also continue to live in the dwelling place otherwise bequeathed to “Rezin” as long as she is single. Four sons and daughter to receive remainder of estate to be divided equally.
