I Charles Stevens, Sr., of Frederick County in the State of Maryland being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my Worldly affairs . . . hence do therefore make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say, First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be decently buried . . . and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequeath as follows. Viz: I give and bequeath to my DAUGHTER ELIZABETH one cow and that to be her choice of all my cattle, one bedstead and bed with all the furniture thereto belonging one chest and $100 current money and a spinning wheel. I give and devise unto my SON JOHN one acre lot of land near New Market with all the buildings and improvements and appurtenances thereunto belonging to his heirs and assigns forever. I give and bequeath unto my DAUGHTER MARGARET Leases' heirs $100 current money to be equally divided among them. I give and bequeath all my personal property not above bequeathed to my SON SAMUEL. I devise and direct my farm where I at present reside there being part of a resurvey on Middle Plantation containing 95 acres of land more or less to be sold and my executor herein named and they give deed or deeds of the purchases thereof and after paying the within legacies the balance of said sale is being equally divided between my aforementioned two SONS JOHN AND SAMUEL equal shares . . . and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my a forenamed son Samuel and my son-in-law John Lease Executors of this my Last Will and Testament . . . 29 day of March 1825.
