I Alexander Stewart of Frederick County & state of Maryland, being in a low State of health but of sound and disposing mind & memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs & thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make & publish this my last will and testament in manner following, viz, First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it & my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor herein after named-- My will is that my Just debts and funeral charges be paid by my Executor in the first place out of my Estate. (Item) Item. I give and devise unto my son John Stewart his heirs and assigns forever the whole of my Real Estate consisting of the plantation on which I now reside called ÒConrads ParadiseÓ a reference to the deed of conveyance will more fully appear and I bequeath to him his heirs and assigns a Mulatto boy called Bob & a Black girl named Mariah. Item I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Mary Ann White her heirs and assigns the sum of Two thousand eight hundred dollars to be paid in Instalments of three hundred dollars each, the first of which to be payable one year after my decease and the remaining payments every Second year thereafter, that is each payment every other year which will leave a Balance of one hundred dollars for the last & tenth payment to be paid by my son John his heirs Executors or Admrs. Item. I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Elizabeth Cunningham her heirs or assigns the sum of Two thousand Eight hundred dollars to be paid in installments of three hundred dollars each, the first of which to be paid Two years after my decease and the succeeding ones every second year thereafter, the last and tenth installment will consequently be one hundred dollars, payable by my son in like manner as the aforesaid bequest to Mary Ann White. I also bequeath to her the said Elizabeth a Negro girl called Harriet, to her her heirs & assigns. Item, I give and bequeath to Alexander Stewart (my grand child) his heirs or assigns, the sum of one hundred and thirty three dollars and sixty six cents and my silver watch, to be paid him out my personal property by my Executor. Item. I give & bequeath to the aforesaid John Stewart Mary Ann White & Elizabeth Cunningham, the whole of the remainder (if any) of my personal estate to be equally divided amongst them share & share alike--- And lastly I do hereby constitute & appoint my beloved son John Stewart Executor of this my last will & testament ratifying and confirming this & none other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal the twenty eighth day of August Eighteen hundred and nineteen--- Alexr. S. Stewart {Seal} his mark Signed sealed & published & declared by Alexr Stewart the above named testator as & for his last will and testament in the presence of us, who at his request in his presence & in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto ---- Philip Matthews William Curran Jonas Matthews ----------- Frederick County to wit: On the 12th day of June 1821 then came John Stewart and and made oath on the holy Evangely of Almighty God that the foregoing instrument of writing is the true whole will and testament of Alexander Stewart late of Frederick County deceased, that hath come to his hands and possession and that he doth not know of any others of younger date--- Test. Frederick County to wit; On the 12th day of June 1821 then came Philip Mathews and William Curran two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing last will and testament of Alexander Stewart late of Frederick County deceased and made oath on the holy Evangely of Almighty God that they did see the testator therein named sign and seal this will that they heard him publish pronounce and declare the same to be his last will and testament, that at the time of his so doing he was to the best of their apprehensions of a sound and disposing mind memory and understanding, that they together with Jonas Mathews the other subscribing witness, repectively subscribed their names as witnesses to said will in the presence and at the request of the testator and all in the presence of each other.
