"Funeral services for Harvey William Baker, 91, who died on Jan. 10 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. V.A. Downes, in Centreville after a short illness, will be held on Jan. 13, at the Barton Brothers Chapel with Rev. Charles Trader, a former pastor at Queen Anne, officiating. Mr. Baker was born in Grantsville, Garrett County on Jan. 9, 1875, the son of Daniel and Lydia Camp Baker. He had lived in Hillsboro, Caroline County for 43 years before coming to his daughter's home three years ago. (Note: Fern Downes Newsom informed me he lived in Wilmington, Delaware, probably to be close ot his son Claude Baker, in an apartment just prior to moving in with his daughter). He was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church and worked as a farmer until he retired. He was married to Alvida Livingood Baker who died 33 years ago. Besides his daugher, Mrs. Downes, Mr. Baker is survived by three sons, Vernon Ray, and Claude Guy, both of Hillsoboro; William Harvey, Pasadena; two brothers, Albert Baker, Cumberland; Irvin Baker, Grantsville; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Pittinger, Philadelphia, Pa.; Mrs. Effie Mason, Cumberland; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were William H. Downes, Thomas E. Nelson, Jr., Francis Pinder, Luther Short, Powell Short, and Ray Baker. Burial will be in the Chesterfield Cemetery.
