The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Revolutionary War Pension Application of Robert HANNA, Sr., 1833 S.22823 Robert Hanna lived on Yorks Run, Georges Twp, Fayette Co., PA ---------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- Revolutionary War Pension Application of Robert HANNA, Sr., 1833 S.22823 Fayette County Pennsylvania On this 10th day May A D 1833 personally appeared before Samuel Nixon one of the associate judges of the Court of Common Pleas in afor said county Robert Hannah a resident of Georges Township afforesaid aged seventy eight years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress passed June the 7th 1832. That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers & served as herein stated. That in April 1776 he was drafted in Captain McComas company Maryland Militia for two months but has forgotten the name of his Col. That he was marched from Hartford County M.D. to Baltimore and performed his two months service at that place. The object of the service was to guard the City of Baltimore against the British. That the Summer of 1776 he was again drafted for two months under Capt. McComas and was marched from Hartford County to Bush town on the Head of Chesapeake Bay and stationed there for the purpose of opposing the British at that time laying in the Bay and performed his entire two months service at this place. And the deponent further saith on his oath afforesaid that the fall of 1776 he enlisted in the "Flying Camp" for five months in Captain Robert Harris' Company attached to Col. Rumsays alias Ramsays Regt. That he was first marched to Amboy opposite Staten Island and was stationed there most of the time during his enlistment. That a part of British Army lay on Staten Island at this time. From thence he was marched to Brunswick where he was attached to Genl. Washingtons army and at this place was engaged in a cannonade with the British who were on the other side of the Raritan River. From thence he was marched to Princeton & from thence to Trenton at which place his term expired and he returned home. That the Spring of 1777 her performed a two months tour in the militia but cannot recollect his officers names. That he remembers well his Captain was an old man but cannot remember his name. He performed this service at the Head of Elk the British at that time laying in the State of Delaware. That the who period of his service is eleven months for which service he claims a pension. That he has no documentary evidence of his service nor dose he know of that one man by whom he can prove his service. That he was born in the County Down Ireland in the year 1755. That he has a record of his age. That he resided in Hartford County Maryland when he entered the service. He continued there & in the eastern part of Penna. for several years after the war. He then removed to Fayette County Penna. where he still resides. He went first into the service under draft - he then enlisted in the "Flying Camp". The regular officers who were with the troops he cannot now recollect all of them he knows that Genl. Washington was with the troops during part of his service. He received a written discharge for his service in the Flying Camp but has lost it. The Revd. William Brownfield & Lewis Williams will certify as to his reputation. He Hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to any pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension Role of the agency of any state. Afforementioned Subscribed the 10th day of May A.D. 1833 Robert Hanna Before -- Samuel Nixon ---------------------------------------------- We William Brownfield a clergyman resident of Union Township & Lewis Williams of Georges Township both of Fayette County, Pa do hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Robert Hannah who has sworn to the foregoing declaration. That we believe him to be seventy eight years of age and that he is respected & believed in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldier of the revolution and that we concur in that opinion. Afforementioned Subscribed the 10th day of May A.D. 1833 W Brownfield Lewis Williams Before Samuel Nixon ---------------------------------------------- Fayette County I Samuel Nixon one of the associate Judges of the court in and for the county of Fayette do hereby certify that Robt Hannah who has subscribed and sworn to the foregoing declaration had the investigation prescribed by the War department put to him and after investigating the matter it appears he was a revolutionary soldier and served as he states. I further certify that his is so infirm as to be incapable of attending the court at its settings and further that William Brownfield (who has signed the declaration) is a clergyman resident of this county & that Lewis Williams who has also signed the same is a resident of the same county & is a credible person and their statement is entitled to trust. Samuel Nixon Judge ---------------------------------------------- Fayette County State of Pennsylvania Personally came Richard Cooley before Squire Ayers a Justice of the Peace in and for Fayette County and after being sworn according to law did depose & say that this dep. and Rob. Hannah were drafted in Hartford Co. Maryland & served together a campaign in the Militia in or about the year 1777 under the command of Capt. John Jolly and were stationed during the said campaign at the head of Elk. Dep. states he has forgotten the names of the Col. and Gen. under whom they served & further says not. Sworn & Subscribed the 16th day of May 1833 Richard Cooley Squire Ayers I do hereby certify that from the acquaintance I have with Richard Cooley, above named, I believe him to be a man of truth & that full confidence may be placed in his allegations.
