I Ambrose Howard of Kent County in the Province of Maryland Planter being very Sick and weak in Body but of Perfect mind and memory thanks be give to God therefore Calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed for men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it & for my Body I commend to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my executor Nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this Life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form Imprs. I give and Bequeath unto my loving wife Barbara Howard my dwelling Plantation with all the appertenances thereunto belonging during her widowhood but if in case she should marry then my will is that it be equally divided between my two Sons George Howard and John Gould Howard to them and their heirs according to tenor of the Lease I have for the said Land. I tem I give unto my son George Howard one horse colt called Turk and my will also that if my son George Howard should Marry with Mary Stanley or any of that family that my will is that he shall have none of the aforesaid Plantation but shall be all for my son John Gould Howard to him and his heirs forever Item I give unto my son John Gould Howard one horse called Batt. Item I give unto my sons that is to say Ambrose Howard and Davison Howard and Christopher one shilling sterling a Piece Item My Will is also that after my just debts be paid once the above Legacys complied with that the remainder part of my moveable estate be equally divided between my wife Barbara Howard and my two sons that is George Howard and John Gould Howard and my Daughter Mary Stevens. I likewise appoint and ordain my beloved wife Barbary Howard to be my only sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and hereby disallow revolke and disannul each and every former Testament Wills and Legacys Request and Executors by me in any wife before this time named willed and Bequeathed satisfied and confirming this and no other to be my last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written Ambrose Howard (seal) Memorandum before signing and delivering these Presents that will is that my two sons that is to [say] George Howard and my John Gould Howard be for themselves at the age of Eighteen years Signed sealed published & declared by the said Ambrose Howard as his last will and Testament in the presence of us the subscribers Thos Gould Thos Hawsworth Mary (her M mark) Hawsworth On the back of the foregoing Will was thus written vizt August the 8{th} 1747 came Thomas Gould, Thomas Hawksworth two of the subscribing Witnesses to the foregoing will being duly and solemnly Sworn on the hold Evangelist of Almighty God do depose and say that they saw Ambrose Howard the Testator sign the foregoing Will and heard him Publish and declare the same to be his last will and Testament and that at the time of this so doing he was to the best of their apprehension of Sound & disposing mind and memory and that they subscribed their Respective Names as Witnesses to the said Will in the Presence of the Testator and at his request and that at the same time they saw Mary Hawksworth the other Witness subscribe the same.
