The plate is inscribed “Burying Ground, Concord Methodist Episcopal Church, 1818-1940” but there are a few graves of people who died post-1940. NOTE: Do not contact St. Mark for info on the cemetery – they do not own it nor do they have its burial records. Transcribed by Barbara Finch, March 17, 2010, compiled from remaining tombstones’ inscriptions. Cemetery Info: Cemetery is very small and in fair condition, and is in a wooded area between the church and some houses. It looks as though it is tended somewhat. There appear to be more graves here. Some basestones are present but the inscribed topstones are missing. One topstone is mostly broken and illegible, and there are other smaller stones embedded in the ground. On Findagrave.com, a Lloyd Wilson Cornwell (d. May 25, 1948) is listed as being buried here but I did not find his grave. Re ownership/burial records: A lady from St. Mark Church returned my call and said they have no information about this cemetery. She remembers hearing that Concord merged with another church and says St. Mark bought the church property in the 1970s. She says St. Mark does not own nor know who does own the cemetery, they do not have its burial records, and they do not take care of it. She guessed that the neighbors may clean up the cemetery periodically.
