My great-great- great grandparents who were some of the original members of Good Hope M.E Church are buried in the cemetery, which is located behind the church. Several years ago a new church was erected across the street but the old cemetery and church are still there and maintained by church members. Family history states that the majority of the Good Hope Church members were related. A book, written by Ned Bayley about the origin of Colesville doesn't even come close to telling the story about the African American residents of Colesville. The Smiths and Johnson's, and a number of other African American families played a large part in helping to build that community after slavery was abolished.
