(Hagerstown [Md.]) 1862-18??: July 05, 1866 July 5, 1866 Case Under The Civil Rights Bill The teacher of the colored school at this place, a colored woman, was brought before Justice Duer last Thursday, charged with assault and battery of a youth, the son of one of our most estimable citizens. She was bound over to appear before the next grand jury. The first case of the application of the civil rights bill in this county occurred in connection with this affair. A party who is said to have made threats of violence against the negro teacher was bound over to keep peace, the teacher claiming the warrant under that bill. She has employed eminent counsel.
