Heffner Gladys M. "Dukie" Heffner, 76, of Laurel and formerly of Boyds, died July 24, 1998, at the Mariner Health Care Center, Laurel. Mrs. Heffner was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Gaithersburg. She had worked in the school cafeterias in Montgomery County before retirement. Her hobbies were gardening and baking. Born in Boyds, she was a daughter of the late Allen and Rhoda Howard Smith. She was the wife of the late Thomas W. Heffner, who died in 1996. Mrs. Heffner is survived by a son, John A. Heffner and his wife Helen of Laurel; and grandson, Alan C. Heffner of Charlotte, N.C. She was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Burdette, and a brother, William Smith. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Forest Oak Cemetery, Route 355 in Gaithersburg, where burial will follow. Muriel H. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville handled the arrangements. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Jennifer Franzt Memorial Scholarship Fund at Hood College, 401 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701. Mary "Pat" Patricia Bucheimer Mary "Pat" Patricia Bucheimer, 68, of Olney died July 26, 1998, at her daughter's home in Dickerson. She was the wife of George E. Bucheimer Sr. of Olney. Born Feb. 14, 1930, in Kensington, she was the daughter of the late Charles P. and Elenor Chapman Atwood. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mary Bailey, and her husband Charles Menter of Dickerson; two sons, Mike Bucheimer, and his wife Christine Donati of Olney, and George Bucheimer Jr. of Rockville; three sisters, Betty Jones, Peggy Jones and Carmah Engle, all of Rockville; grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by one sister, Colleen Jefferson. Services were held Tuesday at Hilton Funeral Home in Barnesville. Donations may be made in Mrs. Bucheimer's name to the American Lung Association, 1301 York Road, Suite 705, Lutherville, Md. 21093. Ralph O. and Elizabeth P. Anslow Memorial services will be held Aug. 1 for Ralph Owen Anslow, 83, who died May 22 at the Wilson Health Care Center, Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, and his wife, Elizabeth Pratt Anslow, 83, who died one week later May 29. The Anslows were originally from the Seattle area and moved frequently during Mr. Anslow's 21 years in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. He retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel in 1961. They moved to Madison, Wisc., where Mr. Anslow became director of research at The Biotron Animal Resource Center. Mrs. Anslow worked in the public and school libraries of Madison, retiring from her position as Middleton schools library supervisor to pursue her specialist degree in gerontology. She then worked for the state of Wisconsin Human Resources Department, preparing retirement seminars. In 1980, the Anslows moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring where they became active in many charitable, religious and political organizations. Mrs. Anslow served on the Montgomery County Committee on Aging, was a precinct poll worker, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and served as president of the Rossmoor Women's Club and the Democrat Club. Mr. Anslow also served as president of the Democrat Club of Leisure World, the Kiwanis Club and the Leisure World chapter of American Association of Retired Persons, his most recent position being district director for Maryland. The Anslows were active in Seniors Against Nuclear Arms and the Gray Panthers, and participated in peacemaking trips to Korea, Nicaragua, East Germany, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. Mrs. Anslow helped a group from her church organizing worship among native Americans. With Habitat for Humanity, Mr. Anslow helped to rebuild housing after a flood in West Virginia. They served in many leadership capacities at Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church in Kensington, where they served as deacons. Mrs. Anslow was a member of the board of directors of the Presbyterian Home in Washington, D.C., at the time of her death. They are survived by daughters, Joy Ward of Cranbury, N.J., and Sarah Anslow Ritter of Chicago; grandchildren, Randall Owens of Woodbridge, N.J., and Jennifer Elizabeth Ward, who is attending Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, triplets Ryan, Brandon and Tyler Ward. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Home Guild Memorial Chapel, Russell Avenue, Gaithersburg. They will be inurned in the Memorial Gardens of Rockville at the United Church in Rockville.
