He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Carlsen; a granddaughter, Lillian Sietz; a brother, Oswald Carlsen; and a sister. Dorothy Olson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Carlsen. Carroll Sr., 79, of Inwood, W.Va., formerly of Silver Spring and Woodbine, died Jan. 19 at the Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va. He was the son of the late Clarence and Reba Hoback Carroll, and the husband of D. Lillian Carroll. Mr. Carroll served in the Army in World War II. He owned and operated Carroll and Son Home Construction before retiring in 1962. He enjoyed farming and moved to Inwood after retirement. He also liked to garden and was a lover of trees and nature. He enjoyed traveling and bird watching, and liked to draw and do art work. He was a member of the Friendship Methodist Church in Jonesville, Va. Besides his wife, he is survived by children, Thomas H. Carroll Jr. and David Carroll of Germantown, and Glenda Jackson and Paul D. Carroll of Rockville; sister, Dorothy Sexton of Rosehill, Va.; half-sister, Mary Helen Strader of Ohio; brothers, Enis Carroll of Florida and Lewis Carroll of Pennington Gap, Va.; and five grandchildren. Anne Marie Code, retired seamstress Anne Marie Code, 68, of Gaithersburg, died on Jan. 24 at Holy Cross Hospital. Born in New York, she was the wife of John Code Jr. Mrs. Code was a retired seamstress, who worked for Woodward & Lothrop at Lakeforest mall for 17 years. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons John Code III and William Code of Gaithersburg; a daughter, Kathleen Rood of Germantown; and six grandchildren. Byrtle I. Frobose, County resident Byrtle I. Frobose, 83, of Montgomery Village died Dec. 8 at Casey House in Rockville. Mrs. Frobose grew up in Cedar Grove. She retired after 25 years with Suburban Trust Bank of Hyattsville, starting out in Germantown and Gaithersburg. She was the wife of the late Richard H. Frobose Sr. She was the daughter of the late Haller Sr. and Anna Pope Snyder. Surviving are one stepson, Richard Frobose Jr. and one step-granddaughter, Carisa Frobose, both of Pleasanton, Calif.; three stepsons from a former marriage, Robert, Mack and Jack Hawkins; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Mrs. Frobose was preceded in death by two brothers, Haller Jr. and Forest P. Snyder; a sister, Eva Leaman; and a stepson, Lawrence Hawkins Jr. A service was held Dec. 12 at the DeVol Funeral Home, Gaithersburg. The Rev. J. Margaret Ann Marshall, homemaker Mrs. Margaret Ann "Peggy" Marshall, 67, of Gaithersburg, died on Jan. 26 at her home. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Dressing Davern. She was the wife of retired Navy LCDR Robert K. Marshall. Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, as well as a member of the 50-plus club at St. John Neumann, Gaithersburg. Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Judy Ann Galaher of Rockville, Kathleen Tomasello of Germantown and Nancy Ellen Marshall of Joppa Towne; two sisters, Eileen Brown and Kathleen Davern of New Jersey; and a brother, James Davern of Winchester, Va. Kevin Joseph Seamone, County resident Kevin Joseph Seamone, 20, of Germantown died Jan. 27. Born in Silver Spring, he was the son of Joe and Debbie Seamone of Germantown. Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Jeannie Seamone of Germantown; grandparents Dennis and Lois Dunn of Houston, Texas and Woodrow and the late Teresa Seamone of Rehoboth Beach, Del. Born in New York, she grew up in the Philippines and moved to Illinois at age 13. The family moved to Michigan a few years later, where she graduated from Detroit Teacher's College (Wayne State University) and taught special education. She later received a graduate degree in education from the University of Dayton. She was active in the Eastern Stars in Michigan. She was president of the Woman's College Club in Dayton, Ohio, and she became a deaconess and elder of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton. She and her husband moved to Montgomery Village in 1974, where she worked as a sales assistant with Kettler Brothers until 1996. She was active in the Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and involved in community activities. Recently, she had moved to Northminster Presbyterian Village near Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Wendt was the wife of the late Gus Wendt. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. W. Borders of Germantown; three grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; two nephews and two nieces. Walter Robert Dickson, Business owner Walter Robert Dickson, 78, of Silver Spring, died Dec. 31, 2000. He was the owner of Briggs Chaney Health Centers in Silver Spring. Jackson, Former school president Robert H. Jackson, 67, former president of The Heights School of Potomac and Washington D.C., died of cancer Jan. 25 at his home in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Jackson served as headmaster of the school from 1971 to 1984 and as president from 1984 to 1987. He continued to teach a philosophy course during his tenure as president. The Heights began in Friendship Heights in 1969 with a seventh and eighth grade program of 40 students. Under Jackson's leadership the school expanded to now include 460 students in grades three through 12. A native of Yorkshire, England, Jackson received his doctorate in chemistry from the University of London. He underwent post-doctoral work at Harvard University in 1960, where he first became affiliated with Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic church. Jackson worked for more than a decade as a research and development chemist and engineer for several Boston firms. During that time he served as director of Trimount House, an international student residence directed by Opus Dei. He was prominent in establishing the Trimount Special Studies Program for talented youth of the Boston area. He retired to the Boston area after leaving the school in 1987. He continued to work with Opus Dei, directing a number of educational and spiritual programs for parents and young people. A funeral was held in Massachusetts on Jan. 29th. Jackson is survived by five brothers and sisters. Joseph H. Kurtz, Banker Joseph H. Kurtz, 84, of Olney, died Jan. 9 at Genesis Elder Care Center in Silver Spring. Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late John and Helen Kurtz. He was the husband of Mary Wilma McDevitt Kurtz. Mr. Kurtz had worked in banking before retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Joseph R. Kurtz of Olney and Gretchen A. Denman of Fawn Grove, Pa.; and two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dwight Carlton Leese Sr., Retired insurance agent Dwight Carlton Leese Sr., 68, of Olney, died Jan. 12 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. Born in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Bigson Uriah and Edna Pearl McDonald Leese. He was the husband of Linda Kerns Leese. Mr. Leese was a Korean War veteran and a retired insurance agent. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon Dawn Pemberton and husband James of Stafford, Va.; two grandchildren; a sister, Ermina Keefer of Melbourne, Fla.; and a brother, Dalton Leese of Melbourne. Martin, Dairy farmer David F. Martin, 80, of Laytonsville, died Jan. 30 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. He was born in Washington, D.C. He was a son of the late Oscar C. and Barbara Beuchert Martin. He was the husband of Harriet Whiteford Martin. Mr. Martin was a graduate of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a dairy farmer and a member of the Farmers Club. Mr. Martin was a member of Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church, Olney. Henry "Hank" Mulholland, retired Diabetes Association vice president Henry "Hank" Mulholland, 59, died Feb. 3 at his home in Darnestown. Mr. Mulholland worked in association management for most of his adult life, after receiving his bachelor's degree in education from Jersey City State College. He retired from his last position as vice president of administration at the American Diabetes Association in 1992, after suffering blindness from one of the common complications of the disease. He was born and grew up in Bloomfield, N.J., where he graduated from St. John's High School. He was a medic in the Air Force, stationed in England 1962- 1966. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sharon; daughters Elizabeth Moon and Mary Mulholland; brother Gregg Mulholland; and sister Kathy Collis. Born in Lincoln, Neb., he was the son of the late James M. and Clare Nelson Seybolt. He was the husband of Antoinette "Toni" Seybolt, his wife of 39 years. Mr. Seybolt attended Loyola University in Chicago and graduated from Southeastern University. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in France. He traveled widely throughout the country as an auditor with the National Parks Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He retired in 1969 after 40 years of government service. He was self-employed as an accountant until 1992. Mr. Seybolt was active in Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church in Olney and a founding member of the Olney Boys and Girls Club. He also was a member of the Lions Club of Olney. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two nieces. Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church. Cheyenne Akia Wilson, County resident Cheyenne Akia Wilson of Germantown died on Monday, Jan. 15. He was the son of Mitchell and Patricia E. Wilson, and the fiancée of Meshashe Lynn Snowden. He was born in Silver Spring. Mr. Wilson graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1993. He worked in park maintenance for the city of Gaithersburg. He also worked seasonally with Mitch's Automotive. Mr. Wilson is also survived by his grandparents, Joseph and Almae Evans of Flint, Mich.; siblings Shannon Mitchell, Shaye Kenita and Santonn Nakoma Wilson; many aunts and uncles; and a niece and nephew. Interment was in Parklawn Memorial Park. *****Feb. 16, 2001***** Edith "Edie" Terry Gallant Gaub Edith "Edie" Terry Gallant Gaub, 83, of Silver Spring, died Feb. 5 at the Randolph Hills Nursing Home in Wheaton after a long illness. Born in 1918 in Charlotte, N.C., she was valedictorian of the class of 1938 from Queens College, where she excelled in mathematics and Romance languages. She was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. Throughout her life, Mrs. Gaub loved classical music and played the piano and the cello. She was a longtime member of the Montgomery County Symphony and also played cello in the Arlington Symphony and the Kensington-Wheaton Symphony. Mrs. Gaub was an active volunteer with the Montgomery County Youth Orchestras and accompanied the group on its 1969 and 1972 European tours. Mrs. Gaub enjoyed ballet, archery, gardening, crossword puzzles and birds, especially bluebirds. She worked as a public information specialist at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda until her retirement in 1985. Previous jobs included working for The Montgomery Journal newspaper, the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Stanley E. Gaub, whom she met as a member of the Arlington Symphony; daughter, Anna, of Silver Spring; son, Eugene of Grinnell, Iowa; grandson, William; and sisters, Mary Ida Gallant of Charlotte, N.C., and Dorothy Annette Gallant of Grinnell, Iowa. He was a member of St. Matthews Lodge Number 906 F & A Mason of Louisville, Ky. ,the Grand Lodge of Kentucky F & A Mason of Louisville, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Damascus Senior Center in Damascus. He was the husband of Etta Nicolet. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was a son of the late Tell William Sr. and Phyllis Cogswell Nicolet. Born Sept. 17, 1921, in Augusta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Marion Lee and Ruth Montgomery Glisson Clark. She was the wife of the late Joseph Mele. Mrs. Mele had attended Tubman High School and Haversham College in Georgia. She was a retired secretary from the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. She is survived by two daughters, Angela Ruth Murphy of Severn, Md., and Maria Carlton Idoni of Gaithersburg; a sister, Peggy Ann Carey of Georgia; and four grandchildren. He was a retired civilian employee of the Navy Department. Mr. Miller, a native of Beech Creek, Pa., retired in 1998 from the Naval System's Warfare Center in Carderock, Md., where he worked as a staff assistant from 1983 until his retirement. In 1957, he married the former Meriam Kinley, who owned and opened Mim's Beauty Salon in Bethesda for 19 years until her death in 1992. Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army and the Army Air Corps during World War II, with assignments in Charleston, S.C.; Colton, Calif.; Reno, Nev.; and the office of military history at Bolling Air Force Base. He attended Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pa., and graduated from Lock Haven State College in 1952. He was a member of the Kensington Masonic Lodge 198 and a 32nd degree Mason with the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, the AF & AM Order and Eastern Star, Kensington Lodge Chapter 39. Mr. Miller was the son of the late Charles W. Miller and Mae McCarthy Miller, and the brother of the late Berwyn Miller, Alton Miller, Kenneth Miller and Elizabeth McNerney. He is survived by his two children, Warren H. Miller Jr. of North Potomac, and Cynthia Maltby, of Bethesda; and two grandchildren, Christopher W. Miller and Steven M. Miller. Nelson, 92, of Montgomery Village, formerly of Batavia and Downer's Grove, Ill., died on Feb. 4, 2001, at her home. Born June 23, 1908, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Charles Emerson and Alma Anderson Walter. She was the wife of the late Carlton Valentine Nelson. Mrs. Nelson was of the Protestant faith. She attended high school in St. Paul, Minn., and business school in Chicago. She worked as a court reporter in the city of Chicago as well as a secretary for Kane County, Ill., Building and Zoning Department before her retirement. She is survived by a daughter, Marie Christine Nelson of Montgomery Village; and a brother, Edward Walter of Lombard, Ill.; as well as nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Walter; and a sister, Grace Walter. Services and interment will be private. Jerome Schiller Mr. Jerome Schiller, 85, of Montgomery Village, formerly of New York City and Delray, Fla., died Feb. 9, 2001, at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. Born September 1, 1915, in New York, he was a son of the late Charles and Sarah Goldberg Schiller. He was the husband of Gertrude J. Schiller. Mr. Schiller served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He worked as a technical writer for the Department of the Army. His hobbies included tennis and art. Surviving besides his wife are one daughter, Jean F. She was born Nov. 8, 1910, in Erie, Mo. She was the daughter of Frank Lester Masters and Cora Boyd Masters Barrett, and the wife of the late Harold Edward Wingo, who died in 1968. She graduated from Goodman High School in Goodman, Mo., and attended business college in Joplin, Mo., then worked in local government in Springfield, Mo., and at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. She was married in 1932 and moved to Washington, D.C., in 1941, working for the Civil Aeronautics Administration and the Commerce Department. She retired to raise her family and served many years as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed traveling, seeing much of the United States with her husband,and in her later years she traveled to Israel, the British Isles, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. She was an active participant in the swim program at Montgomery College for 15 years from 1984 to 1999. She was a member of National City Christian Church, having served as deaconess, elder and elder emeritus. She worked at Deborah's House, an outreach program of the church from 1973 to 1993. Henry "Hank" Mulholland Henry "Hank" Mulholland, 59, died Feb. 3, 2001, at his home in Darnestown. Mr. Mulholland worked in association management for most of his adult life, after receiving his bachelor's degree in education from Jersey City State College. He retired from his last position as vice president of administration at the American Diabetes Association in 1992, after suffering blindness from one of the common complications of the disease. He was born May 19, 1941, and grew up in Bloomfield, N.J., where he graduated from St. John's High School. He was a Medic in the Air Force, stationed in England from 1962-1966. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sharon; daughters Elizabeth Moon and Mary Mulholland; brother Gregg Mulholland; and sister Kathy Collis. She was the wife of the late Robert Seabolt Sr. Born in Ewing, Va., on Aug. 9, 1909, she was the daughter of the late James and Amanda Yeary. Surviving are three children, Robert Seabolt Jr. and his wife, Gladys, of Damascus, Wanda Keller of Ijamsville, and Roger Lee Seabolt Sr. of Sharpsburg. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. Mrs. Seabolt is also survived by a close friend, Robert Calloway of Ijamsville, whom she raised. Irene Munro Wakefield Irene Munro Wakefield, 85, a resident of Asbury Methodist Village, died Feb. 8, 2001, of atherosclerosis at the Wilson Health Care Center. Mrs. Wakefield was born in Winnipeg, Canada and immigrated with her family to the United States in the 1920's. She settled in Washington, D.C. She attended Eastern High School and Strayer College. She lived in northeast Washington, D.C., until 1951 then in College Park until 1977 and Annapolis before moving to Asbury Methodist Village in 1996. An avid quilter, she was active in local quilting groups and worked on quilt projects to raise money for local charities. Mrs. Wakefield worked for the University of Maryland for 25 years, first in the Registrars Office. In 1977, when she retired, she was executive secretary to the Chancellor of University College. Mrs. Wakefield's husband, Benjamin, whom she married in 1938, died in 1963. Survivors include her four children, David Wakefield of Silver Spring, Richard Wakefield of Waldorf, Walter Wakefield of Glen Burnie and Karen Wakefield Filippone of Gaithersburg; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Kathleen H. Kaminski Mrs. Kathleen H. Kaminski, 84, of Sandy Spring, formerly of Glendora, N.J., died Feb. 5 at The Friends Nursing Home in Sandy Spring. Born April 24, 1916, in Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine Smith Higgins. She was the wife of the late John Joseph Kaminski Sr., who died in 1985. Mrs. Kaminski was a graduate of Saugus High School in Saugus, Mass., and The Dean Academy in Boston. She worked as a dietitian at Doctors' Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa., and was chief of dietetics and food services for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Cherry Hill Medical Center until 1976. She is survived by a son, J.J. Kaminski Jr. of Brighton; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Feb. 10 at Friends Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Charles E. Haga. Born Feb. 2, 1914, in Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Rosa Crouse Cook. She is survived by one son, William R. Haga of Tennessee; one daughter, Joycelene F. Gregg of Rockville; and seven grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and two step-grandchildren. Margaret Ann Marshall Margaret Ann "Peggy" Marshall, 67, of Gaithersburg, died Jan. 26 at her home. She was the wife of retired Navy LCDR Robert K. Marshall. Born June 7, 1933, in Elizabeth, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret Dressing Davern. Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker who enjoyed crafts. She was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, as well as a member of the 50 plus club at St. John Neumann in Gaithersburg. Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Judy Ann Galaher of Rockville, Kathleen Tomasello of Germantown and Nancy Ellen Marshall of Joppatowne; two sisters, Eileen Brown and Kathleen Davern of New Jersey; a brother, James Davern of Winchester, Va.; and three grandchildren. Delma Compton Delma Compton, 74, of Rockville, died Jan. 20 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. Born March 15, 1926, in Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Irvin and Mary Elizabeth Smith Rowe. She was the wife of the late Robert Compton, who died in 1971. Mrs. Compton was a homemaker, but had also worked as a photo copier for Bechtel Corp. before retirement. She liked to garden and make crafts and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Brookeville. She is survived by four children, Connie Sue Dorsey of New Oxford, Pa., Walter Robert "Buddy" Compton of Mt. Airy, Patricia Caroll of Solari, W.Va., and James Edward Compton of Germantown; two sisters, Jean Jackson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Geraldine O'Neil of Florida; two brothers, Charles Rowe and Burton Rowe, both of Ohio; and seven grandchildren. Merwin Nelson Seybolt Merwin Nelson Seybolt, 89, of Olney, died Jan. 19 at Sharon Nursing Home in Sandy Spring. Born Jan. 22, 1911, in Lincoln, Neb., he was a son of the late James M. and Clare Nelson Seybolt. He was the husband of Antoinette "Toni" Seybolt, his wife of 39 years. Mr. Seybolt attended Loyola University in Chicago and graduated from Southeastern University. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in France. He traveled widely throughout the country as an auditor with the National Parks Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He retired in 1969 after 40 years of government service. He was self-employed as an accountant until 1992. Mr. Seybolt was active in Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church in Olney and a founding member of the Olney Boys and Girls Club. He also was a member of the Lions Club of Olney. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two nieces. Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church.
